Get Familiar With Tiffany Jaye | @tjayetaylor

#GetSOM via @djspins

Recently we got the chance to catch up with North Carolina recording artist Tiffany Jaye who is on the grind and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Tiffany Jaye

The music, notes, words, pictures…everything that music and art is about is the mere essence of what I love to do and who I am.

Tiffany Jaye

DJ Spins: What is your Stage Name? Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
Tiffany Jaye: My name is Tiffany Jaye born in Brooklyn, NY raised in Charlotte, NC. The idea that one could possibly make a living off their passion was what sparked my interest. Crossing paths with O.G. Neil, at 16, was an open door that made that possible and we’ve been rocking together ever since. I had the voice that could move mountains while he taught me the fundamentals of the business.

DJ: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
TJ: Inspiration comes from the overwhelming sensation to channel my emotions and have somewhere to put them. The soundboard is like a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

DJ: How would you describe your sound?
TJ: My sound is Mariah Carey for her range. Ne-Yo for his writing. Kehlani, Yebba and Victoria Monét for the feel that they bring to the track. They have amazing flavor and what I’m feeling right now in my spirit.

DJ: What is your creative process like?
TJ: My ideal creative process is sitting with a musician and if I have something in mind, like a melody I hum it and we start from there. Or I see where their head is at and we just create. Create from different ideas/inspirations that we’re thinking of at the time. Usually, when the process is like that I find those projects to be the most successful and smooth. There’s more of an organic flow that you get when you create from scratch together with someone else versus receiving a bunch of tracks to choose from and piece the song together.

DJ: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
TJ: BabyFace for his tenure with songwriting and arranging. Ryan Leslie because he’s like a modern-day Stevie Wonder with his ability to play many instruments. He dubbed himself the Black Mozart, bold and fitting. Lady Gaga for the caricatures she’s displayed to the public throughout the years. I want to learn how she channels and makes them believable on screen. Lucky Daye because since his first album “Painted” I’m loving everything he’s doing in its entirety. His choice of features, his subject matter, his vocals, the production, everything.

DJ: If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?
TJ: Lucky Daye – I believe he’s well on his way and it would be a good mix of a show with me opening for him.

DJ: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
TJ: The music, the notes, the words, the pictures, everything that music and art is about is the mere essence of what I love to do and who I am. I hope that you not only listen for entertainment but also gain some personal growth. Preserve and continue to build your confidence by being inspired so that you can be an inspiration to someone else. We all have gifts and talents so find what works for you and use that to help serve others in whatever way you see fit. Whether it’s through singing a song, saying hey, or just giving a hug or a smile. I want you to enjoy, live life, and be free. God bless you, Love Tiffany Jaye.

DJ: What is the most useless talent you have?
TJ: I know that whatever I put my mind to I can accomplish it. With enough focus and discipline one year I learned how to crochet. I started a blanket to find a new hobby to quench my loneliness. While this was successful for the time being in the since of the question I would only call it useless because I don’t have the passion to take it further as I have with my music. It was a one-time thing and it accomplished the fix I needed at that point in my life. Music is something that will never go away. It’s my drug of choice. My vice when I want to escape. Being a part of the creative process is my reason to live.

DJ: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
TJ: If I wasn’t doing music I would probably be more invested in my job and would’ve taken opportunities to move up in that field sooner. Use that as a stepping stone for cash flow to work on my visual art, applying and entering into contests and gallery shows to eventually make a living off of that.

DJ: Who are some artists you admire and why?
TJ: Dorothy Dandridge, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Ne-Yo, Janet & Michael Jackson. I’m going to take time to expand upon one person here. Tina Turner. She’s like lightning in a bottle that couldn’t even contain her. She showed up and was fully present defying all odds and can now bow out gracefully with her mind, health, and a new vision of life going forward.

DJ: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
TJ: I’ve recently been listening to Brenden Burchard’s podcast called “The Brenden Show” and one of the things he suggested was to have a delayed emotional response when communicating. I’m working through being highly reactive so taking time, just a second to breathe in and out before I give someone a response has helped me provide a better, more well thought out answer. It doesn’t come off defensive or irrational which is what I want to perfect. Being proactive in my thinking is a skill I want to master.

DJ: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
TJ: The pay-to-play culture. I wish there was another way to weed out the riffraff to determine who’s really serious versus who’s not.

DJ: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
TJ: I would like to continue creating a few singles, not an album yet, and solidify my audience. Refining my social media and what fans tune into when they come to any of my platforms.

RTIEB was set to be released earlier this year. Ross took his time and delayed the project to take more time in perfecting it. Ross was on The Bakari Sellers Podcast not too long ago and he spoke highly on the album and what fans should expect.

“Really I feel this is the best album. I make progress every day. The words I use, the positions I’m in. The things I’m able to say. Some of the stuff I’m saying on the album gon’ separate this album from others. A lot of people are going to say Rozay shouldn’t have did thaaaat. I think I should. Why not? That’s what the game needs. I’m only going to bring what the game needs.”

Finally, Ross is also attempting to get his driver’s license. With many luxurious cars at his disposal, the Maybach Music general has taken to social media to air out his grievances with the DMV. The pursuit has been trivial and comical, as you can see in the video below.

It’s good to know Rozay has a huge heart. Let’s just hope the DMV has the same sized one!

[Artist] Darrell Kelley Pleads “Take Your Knees Off Our Necks!!!” in New Release

#GetSOM via @essince

Viral Records has announced the release of both a DVD collection of music videos as well as an audio album from R&B artist Darrell Kelley. The two share the same title of “Take Your Knees Off Our Necks!!!”.

“Take Your Knees Off Our Necks!!!” has been the cry echoed in urban streets, as sadly, the long list of names from the African-American community and the economically suppressed who were killed by the law enforcement officers continues to grow. Hardly a week goes in the American news cycle that does not contain at least one report of another death of Black and poverty-stricken people at the hands of the police. Darrell Kelley is among the many millions saying enough is enough, and he says it through his music.

YOUTUBE REACHES 50 MILLION PREMIUM & MUSIC SUBSCRIBERS

(Photo Cred: TheVerge.com)

YOUTUBE REACHES A MILESTONE

You see them every time you try to view that cool video you saw on YouTube. The consistent ads that keep us from what we came to see right away. Tempting us with a one month free trial, that will keep those ads from showing up ever again. While you think that the majority of us would just click on skip, according to Google there are 50 million people who think otherwise. Google is reporting that their YouTube Premium and YouTube Music services have, or at the least extent, have been given a try by 50 million subscribers. The Verge reports that while Google doesn’t break down what that 50 million means, people are growing legs on a continued trend in their YouTube experience.

THE JUMP FROM FREE TO FEE

With the emergence of so many available streaming services, Google is staking claim in the music subscription service industry. YouTube is touting they are the fastest rising streaming service of its kind via a global newsletter from Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube. While only reporting back in December of 2020 that they were around the 30 million mark, Google is still accountable for breaking down the significant surge in overall memberships and trial ships during that time period.

Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music, YouTube (Photo Cred: Wikipedia.com)

The unique offerings of YouTube Music and Premium are resonating in established and emerging music markets alike. We’re seeing impressive growth in countries like Korea, India, Japan, Russia & Brazil where music is a top passion.”

Lyor Cohen

For $9.99 a month, music subscribers are able to enjoy ad-free music downloads of all their favorite music. The premium subscription, billed at $11.99 gives its users the keys to all the doors of YouTube! This includes features that range from being able to play music videos and songs while your device is locked. Or, while you’re busy with another app. This flexibility wasn’t available with Google’s previous attempt at entering the music streaming landscape (Google Play Music). This could be an initial argument as to why Google has seen such a turnaround in subscriptions since 2019.

Straight Official Sit Downs: KNOIR

KNOIR is our hot seat for this week’s edition of Straight Official Sit Downs. We definitely caught a vibe in our recent interview. Check it out down below!

Q&A WITH KNOIR

What is your Name? Where are you from and what got you interested in the music
entertainment industry?

KNOIR: My name is KNOIR (pronounced Noir/ silent K) and I’m from Fort Washington, MD. My
interest in the entertainment industry stems from writing original music in 2015 and
finding a passion for music.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

My life experiences as well as those from my friends and family. As far as influences
of my creativity, I would say Miguel, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West, and a few other
abstract creatives come to mind when generating new ideas.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as a combination of R&B/Pop with elements of Hip-Hop. I like
to use elements of several genres and make original ideas in R&B/Pop.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

So what is your creative process like?

My creative process is a creative zone almost like an out of body experience. Once
the idea of the record is decided, I love to build metaphors around the concept
discussed. I’m very particular in how my words are used and placed so that the flow of
the song is maintained and enhanced. I definitely marry my lyrics with the tracks I
write them to.

Which artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

On my immediate list I would say IDK, Pharrell, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, and
Tyler The Creator. But I could name artists for days.

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

Create a reality for yourself. Learn to only be influenced by the things that you want to
influence you and separate the rest. In this day and age, information is so readily available and constantly changing, so that you DON’T lose yourself in it.

What is a talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

I love to draw and I can play piano.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

Business Marketing for sure.

Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

I truly admire IDK because he isn’t trying to buy people success in the industry. He’s
educating people to become valuable. Self worth is key and he continues to preach it
as he progresses in his career. Jay-Z for the same reason is dropping knowledge in
his music. It’s just about putting that information to good use.

IN CLOSING

What is the best advice that you’ve received?

Going back to my advice to people. With that same train of thought, I was once told,
“Nothing in life can be proven, only disproven. Do with that what you will.” That advice
has allowed me to protect my thoughts, creativity, and sanity.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Stop allowing money to dictate successful music. So many top artists paved their
success because they out bid another artist for the top spot and I think we lose the
appreciation for the music that way. Good music is good regardless of the budget. “It’s sad that people… can’t see that sometimes.

So what’s next for you and where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

Next up for me is a visual for “Catch a Vibe” and I’m currently working on a project with producer “Dre Moon.” He’s ultra talented and has been a massive part of my music career to date. I would love to see this project successfully release with a major campaign behind it as I continue my fanbase development over the next
year.

What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

You can find me on all streaming platforms as KNOIR on Instagram and Twitter @kmb4lyfe and you can find my music on all major streaming platforms.
