Lady Loe Reintroduces Herself To The World

CELEBRATING HIP-HOP, LIFESTYLE & CULTURE, THIS IS STRAIGHT OFFICIAL MAGAZINE

#GetSOM via @djspins

Recently I got the chance to chop it up with Virginia’s own LADY LOE as she’s on a mission to let the world know that “She Did It.”

DJ Spins- What is your Stage Name?

LADY LOE- I go by the name of Lady Loe.

DJ- Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

LL- Born in Brooklyn, Bred in Queens. My mom and dad loved “oldies but goodies” music. My dad was a R&B singer in a group. I would listen to the oldies but goodies and rap to those songs while imaging I was on stage performing.

DJ – Who and/or what inspires you to create?

LL- Life, really. Mine and other people’s situations inspire me to write and create. I’ve written songs about homelessness and domestic violence as these things happened in my life, which touches the lives of others who experienced the same or similar situations.

DJ- How would you describe your sound?

LL- Most people say I sound aggressive when I’m rapping (laughs). Everyone says they love my voice and that my voice is unique. Cool from Cool and Dre (Platinum producers) said that I don’t sound like no other female which was dope!! He continued by saying that I sound like a female version of Busta Rhymes! That was a huge compliment!!

DJ- What is your creative process like?

LL- I’m very picky when selecting beats! (laughs) The beat is what moves, directs, and shapes my vision. I write to video in my head. I’ll freestyle, not with words, but with patterns to create my cadence and how the flow would go.

DJ- What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

LL- Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Meek Mills, Queen Latifah, Lauren Hill, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Rakim, and Roddy Ricch to name a few.

DJ- If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

LL- Definitely would have to be Jay-Z

DJ- What is one message you would give to your supporters?

LL- Never give up on your DREAMS!

I’m very picky when selecting beats (laughs). The beat is what moves, shapes and directs my vision. I’ll freestyle, not with words but with patterns to create my cadence.

Lady Loe on her creative process

DJ- What is the most useless talent you have?

LL- Dancing! (laughs)

DJ- What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

LL- If I wasn’t in the music industry I would be involved in social work.

DJ- Who are some artists you admire and why?

LL- Fat Joe because he put on a lot of artists and they are now superstars. I would also say Jay-Z because he built an Empire.

DJ- What is the best advice you’ve been given?

LL- Never try to change any situation that you can’t control. I am only in control of myself and my actions and behaviors.

DJ- If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

LL- I would like to see more opportunities presented to female artists.

DJ- What’s next for you and where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

LL- I would like to chart on the Billboards.

Dead Silence
Dead Silence

DEAD SILENCE released his new single “Need To Go” last week to rave reviews and replays. The Indianapolis artist and songwriter has been on his grind and the payoff has been spectacular to say the least! With his music being heard on popular TV shows such as Growing Up Hip-Hop on We TV as well as on ABC News and HBO, he is showing and proving that being an independent artist does have its rewards.

Dead Silence- Need To Go Artwork

An entire vibe in itself, “Need To Go” is a track that reflects his thoughts on the fake love and attention that runs rampant nowadays. Along with releasing a clean and explicit version of the single, he released the official music video on Friday and from the looks of the visual, you can tell this was a fun shoot! But don’t take my word for it, you can see the excitement on the faces of everyone in attendance!

Meet the Artist: Zell’s World

Zell's World

Marzell Martinear, an artist known as Zell’s World, has been passionate about music since he was a teenager. In the past few years, Zell has taken this passion and created a style of music that he loves today. He credits his years of experience to the growth he has made in the music industry. He’s been able to study changes in music and use this knowledge to release songs that cater to everyone.

Zell’s World is an independent artist and has described his life as “born in Chicago, raised in Cincinnati, by way of Atlanta.” He developed a strong foundation in Cincinnati, studied the business of music in Atlanta, and has since been traveling between states to broaden his audience even further. His goal is to reach an international level and release music on every platform.

The key to Zell’s success? Staying humble and continuing to perfect his skill. When complimenting his progress, Zell tends to think, “I don’t think I’ve done enough,” which he believes motivates him to keep going until he is exactly where he wants to be, at his standards. When asked what advice he’d give to new artists, he gave a valuable message:

“Don’t give up, always be consistent, quality over quantity, and never wait for anybody.”

I would ask people to listen, share, like, etc… anything to support and some just wouldn’t. Some of my closest relationships have changed yet, people I’ve never met bought and shared my music as soon as its released.

Zell’s World’s view on challenges in the music industry

Being in the music industry does have its challenges. Zell’s view on relationships has changed since he began his career. Zell gave a personal shout-out to his brother, Keith Marshall a.k.a. Keef N Nem, and his producer Evan, known as MamaNamedMeEvan. Keith is Zell’s closest friend and has been there to motivate and push him to be his best. When it comes to who he’ll be sharing his success with, Keith is at the top of the list. Evan produces a majority of Zell’s music including “All Hustle No Luck” by Easy Lantana, Pusha T, Bun B, Yo Gotti, & “Blessing” by K Camp, and “Get Right” by Sammie.

Even through Covid, Zell has successfully released his album, Zell’s World the Album, and his single, “Put it 2getha” with YDN. “Put it 2getha” is a trendy sound for hip hop. The style, the swag, the overall message is unique,” Zell explains. It was originally a YouTube beat that Zell wrote lyrics to, connected and mixed with YDN in Atlanta, and then his brother, Keef N Nem, recreated the whole beat, and essentially “put it together.” Zell’s next steps are to get “Put it 2getha” on an international platform.

Check out this banger and all of Zell’s World music on Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok at @itszellsworld!

YouTube Removes Misinforming Vaccine Videos

WHAT IS YOUTUBE DOING?

YouTube has announced that they will begin to remove any misinforming videos surrounding any approved medical vaccinations from their site. Bloomberg reports that the site is forgoing their usual hands-off approach to this topic. The video platform will extend their policies against any form of misinformation conveyed on their site.

A division of Google announced that the ban will include any media claiming that vaccines are dangerous or lead to chronic health outcomes. Over 130,000 videos broke the new rule and were removed from the site. These numbers will rise as the pandemic goes on.

One year ago, YouTube began banning videos that were critical of Covid-19 vaccines. Seeing early on the policy had limitations, YouTube enforced policies after creators found ways around it. Making claims about the vaccines without mentioning Covid-19 directly was one way creators went about it.

We can imagine viewers potentially extrapolating Covid-19. We wanted to make sure that we’re covering the whole gamut.

Mark Halprin on YouTube’s New Policy

DEALING WITH BACKLASH

YouTube faces some of the same political pressures as Facebook and Twitter. The streaming site is being accused of censoring speech. The platform faces scrutiny for what some believe is labeling and inadequately policing vaccine skepticism and falsehoods.

Halprin said, “The company will allow ‘scientific discussion’. Videos about vaccine trials, results and failures.” YouTube will continue to permit personal testimonies. Parents can talk about their child’s experiences receiving the vaccine.

“If videos aggregate these testimonials or make broader claims questioning vaccine efficacy, they will be removed” Halprin said.

IS YOUTUBE RESTRICTING SEARCHES?

Within the conditions of YouTube’s new policy, the platform categorized certain health videos and in some cases, reduced their ability to show up in searches. Reports state that the company will treat certain health videos as “borderline.” This would decrease the appearance in search results.

“It’s only when somebody then generalizes, Halprin continued. ‘It’s not just about my child’. There’s obviously a line there.”

What do you think about YouTube’s new course of action? Let us know in the comments down below!

The Quest Chronicles: Independent Artists

#GetSOM via @TQuestGLM

THE QUEST CHRONICLES: INDEPENDENT ARTISTS I’ve been working in the music entertainment industry for almost 20 years and I’ve experienced many things. I’ve been a radio personality for about 10 years and I have had the chance to interview many artists from independent to mainstream amongst other incredible people. With the climate of music changing especially in our culture; I started to become a little nervous about the direction music is heading. I’m ok with music evolving but like many of my peers; we’re just bored with all the music sounding exactly the same.

In my field I come to find out that it’s actually not. There’s a lot of independent music that shows diversity and they’re producing the content many of us have been waiting to hear for a long time. It’s up to us to stop relying on only syndicated radio or mainstream television to dictate the music we should only be listening to. There’s so many digital and independent stations playing the music you desire such as my station Gotta Love Me Radio. We play a variety  to cater to a diverse audience.

Independent artists deserve a chance just like mainstream artists. They work so hard to be heard and sometimes the professional, talented & unique artists get lost in the shuffle and we have to stop that. Their music is worth listening to and I encourage you all to take time to hear them as well.

To all the independent artists out here, continue following your dreams and if you’re creating music that people actually want to hear; reach out to my team so we can help shine a light on it. We need you just as much as you need us. Let’s bring diversity back to the music so we all can be happy.

[BREAKING NEWS] R. Kelly Found Guilty!!

R. Kelly (Photo Cred: ABC News)

#GetSOM via @TenthLetterMedia

Confirming multiple news sources, R&B singer R. KELLY was found guilty by a federal jury on Monday afternoon on racketeering charges stemming from his publicized sex trafficking trial. Prosecutors had accused R. Kelly of using his celebrity to bait women and underaged girls for sex throughout the course of the R&B singers’ thirty-year career.

Straight Official reported on R. Kelly just last month. The singer’s trial had appeared to had hit a brick wall. The prosecution rested their case against the crooner after hearing weeks of testimonies from accusers and survivors of Kelly. It’s funny what a few weeks can change.

Reuters reports that R. Kelly pled not guilty to a racketeering charge and eight counts of violating federal law. This involves making it illegal to transport people across state lines for prostitution. While the prosecution is making R. Kelly as a predator who used his fame and charisma to lure victims into his sphere, the defense team for R. Kelly portrays him as a generous person and that his accusers are looking for a payday through failed book deals and hoped-for music careers that never took flight.

Lil Nas X Calls On The Hot Girls For ‘Montero’

#GetSOM via @mochathemack

Lil Nas X (Photo Cred: Lil Nas X’s IG Page)

LIL NAS X (born Montero Hill) released a controversial debut album on September 17th of this year. I can’t say I favor every song however, there is definitely one song that I had to add to the Fine Girl Fall playlist. As we say goodbye to Hot Girl Summer, Lil Nas teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion to let the haters know that they can run with the rumors. These breakout stars are staying true to themselves regardless of the narrative.

Track 9, “Dollar Sign Slime” is more than enough for me to give ‘MONTERO’ a seal of approval. People tend to give dude a bad rep by saying that he capitalized on kids with “Old Town Road” and then switched up on his audience. I have to completely disagree. I don’t think Lil Nas X ever intended on kids being his target audience. “Old Town Road” happened to become a catchy tik tok tune much like Megan’s “Savage”. Truth be told, the album is not that bad. Folks just don’t like it because y’all don’t know how to monitor these kids. I digress.

All the real hot girls know that when you hear “REAL HOT GIRL SH*T”, it’s about to go down. Even if it was a solo track, I still would enjoy it but Meg just makes it 10x better. In less than 10 days, the audio visual has racked up over 7 million views because y’all know the vibes. The song is amongst the top 3 most listened to songs on the album joining self titled “Montero” & “Industry Baby”. All in all, congratulations to Lil Nas X and all of his collaborators for the 217 million streams in the first week via Spotify.

#SaturdaySpotlight featuring Tevin Studdard

CELEBRATING HIP-HOP, LIFESTYLE AND CULTURE, TENTHLETTERMEDIA & STRAIGHT OFFICIAL MAGAZINE PRESENTS THE #SATURDAYSPOTLIGHT

MEET TEVIN STUDDARD

TEVIN STUDDARD has been going HARD over the past few weeks for his community! Born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, Tevin has become both an overnight success and a narrative changer for his city. Ever since he went viral with a rap song about Long’s Donuts last year, the WISH TV 8 personality and entrepreneur has set the bar for putting all his people on. Tevin is built for providing prosperity to his brothers and sisters by any means necessary!

TEVIN’S FAMILY TIES

Studdard became widely popular through the production of songs and music videos for collegiate and high school sports teams. Talent runs deep in the Studdard bloodline as Tevin is the cousin of Ruben Studdard, the first African-American male to win American Idol. Tevin used music as a escape from the real life tragedy that altered the course of his life.

“I had a cousin that was killed outside my grandma’s house when I was in school,” Studdard recants. “It was kinda just a defining moment for me. I was depressed and ended up at that time dropping out of school. Music was where I could find hope. It was an outlet of expression for me.”

TEVIN SEIZES AN OPPORTUNITY

Going after his dreams with veracity, Tevin would catch the attention of some of the city’s most influential people. He recalled the time that his music made it to WNBA legend Tamika Catchings. “My senior year of high school I sent some songs to Tamika and she really liked them,” he said. Seeing the opportunity to get one step closer to his goal, Tevin came to Tamika with an ultimatum.

“I told her if she liked my music then could I write a song for the Indiana Fever,” he said. “But, the catch was that if the song was good enough for the Fever, then she would let me perform it at Conseco (now Bankers Life) Fieldhouse. She gave me her word and I jumped in the studio like Superman!”

It’s like the worst that they could tell me was ‘no’. If you got the dream inside of you, work your behind off it.”

Tevin Studdard on his go-getter mentality

TEVIN GOES BEYOND THE MUSIC

Flyer for Tevin Studdard’s grand opening of Tevin’s Vision (Photo Cred: KPRN.TV)

I caught up with Tevin a few weeks ago as he celebrated the grand opening of Tevin’s Vision. On a Wednesday afternoon, Tevin reached out to 100 small business owners and from his newly acquired building inside Washington Square Mall. Tevin would flood the dying establishment with 133 total business owners! Stores like Sears, Montgomery Ward and LS Ayres which occupied the building years ago could never warrant this much traffic! Tevin was filming a new online series called To-Go Plate. He invited chefs and restaurant owners to sample their dishes and highlight their respective businesses.

From there Tevin would proceed to meet and greet with every single vendor that was in the building. I watched as Tevin took plate after plate from every chef! He proceeded to canvas the mall and shake hands and embrace all the vendors in attendance. It was a testament to how much Tevin wants his people to win. On October 2nd, Tevin will be doing it all over again with the second helping of Tevin’s Vision with the goal to have over 200 business owners and vendors on site!
