JAY-Z to Honor Basquiat and Warhol

The hip-hop legend JAY-Z is set to take the stage in Paris, France for a rare performance. The seasoned rapper will be headlining a special concert at the Auditorium of the Fondation for Louis Vuitton Foundation. Paying homage to his favorite visual artists, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. This event will help promote Louis Vuitton’s upcoming “Basquiat × Warhol Painting four hands” exhibit. Featuring 160 collaborative creations on canvas by the two successful artists.

JAY-Z has been a long-time fan of Basquiat’s work and has even referenced the late artist in several of his lyrics. Including his 2013 track “Picasso Baby,” where he raps “Yellow Basquiat in my kitchen corner / Go ‘head, lean on that shit Blue, you own it”. With this performance, JAY-Z will be able to pay tribute to his favorite artists in a unique way.

The Controversy Surrounding the Use of Basquiat’s Art

Sponsored by luxury jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co, which are business partnership with JAY-Z and his wife, Beyoncé. Despite the couple’s use of one of Basquiat’s art pieces during a 2021 campaign. The couple faced heavy criticism from Basquiat’s old friend, Alexis Adler. Because of this, some argue that the couple’s use of Basquiat’s art piece is certainly a form of appreciation for the artist’s work. While they argue that the couple’s campaign could have introduced Basquiat’s artwork to a wider audience, thereby increasing its value and relevance.

Jay Z Performance of “God Did” @ The Grammy Awards

After his appearance at the 2023 Grammy Awards earlier this year. JAY-Z will be taking the stage once again for his first performance at the upcoming concert. In fact he shut down the show with a star-studded performance of “God Did” alongside DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend, and Fridayy.

Undeniably Basquiat and Warhol were two of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Indeed Basquiat’s street art and neo-expressionism and Warhol’s pop art leaves a lasting impact on the art world. The two artists frequently collaborated in the 1980s. Louis Vuitton’s upcoming exhibit will showcase 160 of their collaborative creations on canvas.

Significantly fans of the legendary rapper and art enthusiasts alike can come together to celebrate the iconic work. The event promises to be a unique and memorable experience, paying homage to two of the greatest artists of all time.
