VERSE OF THE MONTH: REDMAN FEAT. METHOD MAN- Lalala

REDMAN & METHOD MAN are the standard of iconic duos in Hip-Hop. The one-two punch of Funk Doc and Johnny Blaze has produced some of the genre’s most memorable tracks. Under the Def Jam label, they’ve ran amuck since the mid-90’s. While they would link for feature projects, it was 1999 when they released their full-length collab project Blackout!

Redman released his long-awaited sequel Muddy Waters 2 on Christmas Eve last year. Fans were treated to a 32-track demonstration that had dope features from Hip Hop’s elite MC’s. The real gift, however was the fact that the Brick City MC still has it lyrically. The Straight Official Magazine Verse of the Month comes from track 6 titled “Lalala.”

REDMAN “LALALA” FEAT. METHOD MAN

[Verse 1: Redman]
Yo, now everybody welcome me back like I’m Kotter
It’s ’90s ugly, I’m in the mirror like Shabba
America’s most blunted, Cheech and Chong say I’m don dada
A bounty hunter for the sour, I’ma
Hit your hood, I’m in pocket, how I get around (Yeah)
I’m on my toes like a midget in a urinal
Whoever your connect, boy, better tell ’em (Yes, sir)
I’m looking for the killer, I’m tryna catch a felon

[Verse 2: Method Man & Redman]
I’m looking for who’s selling, Mary cooking my cerebellum
I pen and tell ’emmy art is war, Machiavellian
By day sevеn, see what you’re smelling is me inhaling
You see that sеven of seven seas, call me Magellan (Let’s go, Meth)
I’ll call the reverend, MAC 11 and split your melon
If that don’t get him, a honeydew, in a split second
America’s most, put us both in the smoke section
With no sticks and no seeds and no exceptions
 (Haha)

LALALA cont.

[Verse 3: Method Man]
Ayy, blunt brothers, you got the herb, the blunt covered
You came to beef with a butter knife, that don’t cut it
Just cold busted, wild style when I cold crush it
The Gilla House got a gilla monster, I’m cold blooded
You are ready, I run with Reggie, I don’t puff it
We like De Niro and Joe Pesci, but low budget
Bunch of buzz killers, buzz buggers, they asking how he do it
Ain’t no Nike to it, I just does it

[Verse 4: Redman]
Ayo Meth, I got the granddaddy and I’m listening to Bob Marley
I tear the roof off the porch like it’s House Party (Let’s go)
I got the new edition, that green homie, it’s a killer
Ralph, Ricky, Mike, Bobby, Ronnie, and Johnny (Woo)
Niggas say they got gas, but it’s all gas
They talking like a podcast, nigga, haul ass
I never share and I don’t pass the clip
‘Cause that shit on his lip got some shit on his lip, nigga

Q&A WITH YOUNG CALEB

What is your Name? Tell us where you are from and what first interested you in the entertainment industry?

My name is Caleb, I’m from Akron Ohio and I’ve always wanted to be a performer. I started performing at shows for school, my church, and my passion grew from there.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

I’ve always loved singing and one of my inspirations that has driven my passion to the next level was The Wiz. Since a young age I’ve loved that musical so much. Watching Michael Jackson perform as Scarecrow made me want to start dancing and singing.

How would you describe your sound?

I’m a versatile singer, but I like to strive to promote a young, fun sound.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?

Well, during the recording process, we would go to the studio multiple times a week and record a number of tracks.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with H.E.R, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown, RAYE or Usher. These are all artists who have inspired me to perform.

Young Caleb

Let artists have more creative freedom. Just because the things you’ve done in the past have worked for other artists, doesn’t mean they work for future ones.

SHIFTING GEARS

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

Never give up on your dreams. If you have a dream there might be conflicts along the way or things you must complete to get to where you want to be, but all of your work will pay off in the end.

What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

I’ve played baseball and I was pretty good. I played for almost all of my life and have always been pretty a decent player.

8. What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

I would be in community theatre’s performing and training to be on broadway. I have an undying love for broadway musicals like The Wiz, Wicked, Mean Girls, and lots more. This is actually one of my other passions I would like to pursue one day. Though, currently I’m focused on my music though, and I wouldn’t give it up for anything.

WRAPPING IT UP

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

To never give up.

What’s next for you? Where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

Released more music, blown up on social media, striving for success.

What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

My social media currently is on Instagram and TikTok and you can find me @youngcaleb_ent for my Instagram and @youngcalebent for TikTok.
