Q&A with MakaSound Producer Aye YB

Q&A with MakaSound Producer Aye YB

By Micah ‘MØW’ Wormley

From sleeping on his friends couch, to becoming one of the most sought after up coming producers in the industry, Malachi Haden, known to most as AyeYB, is proving that hard work and dedication can take you places talent alone will not. Born in Atlanta, Ga and raised in Richmond, Va, AyeYB’s love and passion for producing has manifested through his youth into a thriving career in his young adulthood. In this interview, we got to know a little more about AyeYB as he chronicled his journey, as well as dropping gems for the next generation of producers.

Where did your passion for music flourish? And at what age did you first aspire to be a music producer?

Aye YB: My passion for music flourished from being in the church, growing up around the piano players and the drummers. My mom used to always tell me how she would put headphones over her stomach and play music like Mozart and jazz. I honestly think that’s why music has such a strong hold on me as well. I first aspired to become a music producer at age 13 watching videos of Southside and Lex Luger making beats on Youtube. This was right before I got to high school. I wanted to make music a long term thing. I just did not want to become a band teacher.

Who and or what were some of your inspirations while learning to produce? What did you take from them and how did you apply it to your sound?

Aye YB: My main inspirations as a producer are Metro & Wheezy. At age 14, I watched Vlogs of Metro Boomin after school everyday. His melodic melodies were my biggest takeaway and the way he layered sounds blew my mind away. Then when It comes to Wheezy the bounce of his drums and the way he put them together is crazy. I studied it all through high school. It really helped grow my sound and taught me the right pockets to insert my drums. I took away so much knowledge.

The Making Of 2 Chainz & Big Sean “Wreck” W/ Aye YB (Co Prod. Hitmaka & Duce)

How did the pandemic affect your journey as a producer and content creator?

Aye YB: The pandemic affected my journey for the best. I was stuck in the house so much I couldn’t do anything but make beats. Being locked in really helped me get into the position I’m in now as far as getting signed. I woke up, made beats until about 3, took a break then got back to making beats until about 11pm in the evening. It allowed me to get so much stuff done and it set me ahead of the curb. I was living with TB digital at the time so as far as content creating he helped guide and show me everything I needed to do.

How did you join team ProducerGrind? And how did their platform help to make you a better producer?

Aye YB: I joined Team Producergrind through TB Digital. I was with him all the time watching him make kits, livestream, and create content. I was always the guy behind the camera and helped set things up. It came to a point where he asked me if I wanted to join and so I took the opportunity and never looked back. The platform helped me understand the viewpoints of the producers from the ones who just started to the ones who have placements. It helped me grow my patience a lot more than anything.

You seem like a naturally quiet person. How hard was it for you to come out of your shell while creating content? Any tips you could recommend?

Aye YB: It was hard for me to break my shell at first being in front of the camera. But I honestly think that is what I am known for just being a chill laid back person. I still am currently working on communicating and talking more. You honestly just have to be yourself and just talk.

Can you give some insight on how you joined MakaSound?

Aye YB: I joined makasound simply by just sending beats to the songwriter and President of Makasound Chirshan for a little over a year. We had so many demo’s together where it got to a point and he asked me if I wanted to join the team. Once I joined, he flew me out to Florida and got me in the room with Turbo, Jetson, Vory, Tay Keith, Murda Beatz, and some other producers and songwriters.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from Hitmaka & Chrishan?

Aye YB: The most valuable lesson I learned from Chrishan and Hitmaka is that you can not take anything personal. You have to keep it strictly business in this industry and grow some tough skin because things do not happen when you want it to.

How do you define success and what does success look like for you?

Aye YB: To me success is being able to take care of your family and yourself and also putting your people in the position to win and take care of their families. It’s all about paying it forward. It’s not about money, money is only a tool to help you reach financial freedom.

It definitely shows that you put in a lot of hours to reach this level of success. What do you enjoy doing outside of music?

Aye YB: The only thing I do outside of music is play the game and hang out with my brother and cousins. I hate being in the mix. I just like to stay out the way.

If you could give one valuable piece of advice to an aspiring producer following your path what would it be?

Aye YB: The biggest valuable piece of advice I would say is to build relationships. That’s all you need is to have strong relationships with people it goes farther than anything

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: DJ Laz Vagez | @lazvagez416

FOR OVER TWO DECADES, THE FLEET DJ’S HAS GROWN FROM A SMALL CREW TO A PROFICIENT COALITION WITH OVER 500 MEMBERS AND COUNTING. SINCE 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’S HAS CHANGED THE LIVES OF BOTH ITS MEMBERS AND THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY THEY HAVE THRIVED IN.
THESE ARE THE MEMBERS. HERE ARE THEIR STORIES. WELCOME TO “THE FLEET FILES”!

They don’t call it the WORLDWIDE Fleet DJ’s for no reason. In this file, we head across the U.S. border to Ontario, Canada where we meet none other than artist, producer, engineer, DJ Laz Vagez. It’s safe to say that he is a jack of all trades, and we can’t be mad at that because most of the illustrious Fleet members are. Vagez became a member in 2009 and returned in 2021. So, who is DJ Laz Vagez and how dare he be from Canada with a name like Laz Vagez? Let’s jump right into it!

WHY LAZ VAGEZ STANDS OUT

He came up with his name years ago when he was a radio host for Champ Radio at a local university when he was alongside Hollywood and M Dot (RIP). It was only fitting, but he started his career long before that. At the age 12, he started rapping under the moniker D’Sinatra. By 14 years old, he dedicated his life’s work of engineering to help the hood come up. I guess that’s why you can rarely go to state where he doesn’t know anyone. Fun fact: did you know that Laz Vagez was a credited engineer on a Smiley/Drake collab? He’s really making a name for himself out here.

STRAIGHT OFFICIAL, FORREAL

Vagez is a real asset to us here in Fleet and on the Straight Official staff being that he is one of the program directors on Straight Official Radio. Since he’s so involved in the radio scene, I asked him what the top 3 songs are that he listens to all the time. His playlist right now includes $500 ounces x Westside Gunn, ‘97 Hov x Benny the Butcher, CTG x D’Sinatra & Rock Nitty. He says that becoming a DJ allowed him to learn to read crowds and recognize what music meshes well with other music and to love and respect other genres. He has a lot of people looking up to him so even we think he’s going hard; he’s already thinking of ways to go harder.

Artists, stay consistent. Find a producer and continue to work with that person, that’s how you create saucy hits. Producers, be willing to create new sounds and network. Put out your work anywhere and everywhere. Make beat kits and drum kits and COLLAB! We can collab with anyone all over the world

Laz Vagez’s advice to upcoming industry members

FUTURE FOR VAGEZ

What’s next for the multi-talented DJ? He’s currently in the process of perfecting his production craft in order to build a project like the Metro Boomin‘ x 21 Savage collab. I hear he’s coming out with an online course for engineers as well. I’m so grateful to connect with such a powerhouse. He’s not a person you can be around and remain stagnant. I’m excited to see what he achieves in the next decade.

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: Mocha The Mack | @mochathemack

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 500 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

Name: MOcha the Mack

FLeet DJ Since: 2021

Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Region: south region/Florida Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS MOCHA THE MACK?

MOCHA THE MACK is the newest member of The Worldwide Fleet DJ’s for a reason. Although she’s rarely behind the ones and twos, it’s her one-two combination of being a journalist and media personality that’s enough to move the crowd. As a writer for Straight Official Magazine, Mocha is a part of the home publication of Fleet DJ’s. She does it all from content creation and promotions to music reviews and interviews.

Her whatever-it-takes persona has helped the magazine in it’s growth. “I’m winning by helping y’all win, so if you ever need an assistant or PR rep on your team, I’m ya girl! If you need something and don’t know where to find it, I’m ya girl, I’ll help connect you.”

Justice B.K. has always had a desire to become a writer. Even before she became Mocha, she knew way back in Kindergarten that this was her path. “I used to make student and staff gossip mags out of loose leaf paper. After that I focused on music training and passed up the opportunity to establish myself as a writer in high school and college.”

You have to be willing to always be a student to excel at anything, not just journalism.

Mocha The Mack

When I asked where she draws inspiration from to create, she relied on a personal creed. “My motto has always been “Aspire to Inspire” and that’s just been applicable to everything for me. I really didn’t know how many people would actually pay attention to me, without me going out of my way to be extraordinary.”

In her journey into journalism, Mocha has found her way to approach interviewing that makes the reader feel as if they were there during the sit down. “When I transcribe interviews, I always tell the subject’s story as colorful as possible because I want you to see the picture they painted for me.” Mocha also controls her own narrative by being cautious with her words. “But when I talk about myself, I’m just as strategic with words because you only know what I allow you to know. That’s how I control my story.”

WHAT DRIVES MOCHA

Mocha has always had big dreams. Besides wanting to be a teacher, she’s been preparing herself for a career in music. “I’ve been training musically my ENTIRE life so I sing, dance/choreograph, act, and even DJ a little! (laughs) We talked about peaks and valleys in our respective paths. Mocha talked about overcoming herself to achieve her goals.

“My best experience would have to be my early days of interviewing and being a mistress of ceremonies. I knew it was what I wanted to do but I was so scared of rejection. Those programs went extremely well and I got so much praise for just being courageous! I learned to believe in myself and keep pushing through with this thing no matter what!”

There was a point in time that Mocha could have walked away from her pursuit of her journalism. She told me that two words she kept hearing most of her life almost changed everything if not for an invitation to join Fleet. “I never would have taken my journalism career seriously if I hadn’t joined. Too many times in life I heard that I “should have”. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity again.”

Follow your heart and do what you love because that will make it easier for you to stick to it and win. You may have to do a million different activities until you find what you love, but just do it!

Mocha’s advice to aspiring artists

I had to ask Mocha how she came up with her name. Her story behind it was hilarious! “So not that many people know my real name anymore and I just refuse to tell most people because they try to act like they really know me (laughs). On the other hand, I needed a rebrand for people to take me seriously. I had a friend back in the day whose hair color was the same as her skin. I’m an earth sign so I guess it makes sense that I like brown anyway but I had to come up with a cuter name than brown, so I chose Mocha.”

She continued, “Everyone began calling me Mocha, despite a few haters but I digress (laughs) then Megan Thee Stallion said in a verse “I get in my act on that yak/ He call me “Megan Thee Mack” and that just stuck with me! Anyone who knows me knows how Mocha can get of the yak so I replaced Megan with Mocha. Now I can’t sing it any other way!”(laughs)

IN CLOSING

My sit down with Mocha was indeed inspirational. As a writer myself it was easy to connect with her on several viewpoints. When I asked her if we could look forward to any future projects, she was a bit reluctant. “The problem is I tell y’all stuff a little too early sometimes (laughs) but, I can tell y’all that my book is still under construction and y’all can look forward to writers’ workshops happening very soon. Y’all go follow @MackbookMedia on Instagram because it’s coming!”

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: DJ Les Rico | @djlesrico

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 500 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

Name: DJ Les Rico

FLeet DJ Since: 2019

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Region: south region/Florida Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS DJ LES RICO?

Even before joining The Worldwide Fleet DJ’s, DJ Les Rico knew that being a DJ was his passion. When I asked him what inspired him to become a DJ, he referred to a memory that has stuck with him for years. “Living in the lower eastside of Manhattan, we would have block parties in the parks. There were local DJs that taught me a lot. It sparked my interest and kept me out of trouble.” Rico has over 30 years experience in being a DJ. Like his coalition family, he dons several hats. He is a recruiter for the Latin division of Fleet as well as DJ for Straight Official Radio.

Enrique Ramos is a man that is grounded by his family values. “I focus on keeping family a priority. Making time for both them and DJ’ing.” Being currently retired, Rico spoke on how he maintains balance in his life. “I utilize my time DJ’ing while my wife works to keep balance over everything.”

Rico has encountered his share of peaks and valleys in his career. His best moment came from one of his largest events. “My best moment was when I DJ’d at a 3-day event and on the last day it was at DeSoto Park in front of a huge crowd! The joy that I felt was indescribable!” When Rico spoke on his valley, it had nothing to do with being a DJ. It dealt more with a medical condition that he has had for over two decades.

Having a medical condition I am challenged everyday. Playing my music helps me to defeat how I am feeling.

DJ Les Rico on how he deals with his condition

RICO’S WAY OF LIFE

In 1998, Rico’s life would change forever. “I was diagnosed as AIDS positive on June 29 1998, with a 16 T-cell count and not given a good chance to live.” Even with this placed upon him, Rico found both strength and courage from the one thing that meant the most to him… his family. “But with the love and support of my family, I am currently now with T-cell over 1200 and undetectable! I am living with God and with the love of your family, anything is possible!”

It was the same joy that Rico got from DJ’ing at DeSoto Park that helped tremendously with his condition. “It has become a healing force against my battle with HIV.” I asked Rico how he came up with his stage name. “DJ on the Lower East Side of NYC!” (laughs)

As we further spoke, I found out just how giving he is when it comes to his craft. “I have events free of cost on many occasions. Anytime or any place, I embrace the opportunity to help local charitable organizations and help support fellow DJs.”

DJ Les Rico and wife, Lisa

IN CLOSING

I have met many goals in my life. I am seeking new ones with each experience I undertake.

DJ Les Rico

DJ Les Rico is a fine addition to the Fleet DJ family. With his own family being the center of his life, it’s no secret that he is successful in all that he does within Fleet. You can follow DJ Les Rico on Instagram and tune in to Straight Official Radio to hear him in action!

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: DJ Swetmusic | @dj_swetmusic

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 500 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. HERE are Their Stories. WELCOME TO “THE FLEET FILES”!

Name: DJ Swetmusic

FLeet DJ Since: 2019

Location: Louisville, Kentucky

Region: SOUTH REGION/KENTUCKY Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS DJ SWETMUSIC?

DJ Swetmusic (pronounced sweat music), also known as “James Swetmusic”, has been a member of the Fleet conglomerate since 2019. James got his start as a rapper where he was born and raised in southern KY. He began rapping and writing in middle school. By 2003, he dropped the first of 27 mixtapes. He cites his influences as including Snoop Dogg, Goodie Mob, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Dayton Family just to name a few. Swetmusic Ent. is his personal brand, but it started as Swetshop Ent. “Sweat”/”SWET” came from running an in-house studio with a closet as a booth and people were coming out of there sweating to death! Around 2010, he signed to the independent label “Phoenix Legacy Records” in Hopkinsville, KY.

RAPPER TURNT DJ

His father was a DJ while in the military and growing up his mother’s boyfriends were seemingly always in the DJ industry, so it was easy for him to take interest. Once he got to a certain point as a rapper, he decided that he still wanted to mingle amongst artists, entertain people musically, and maneuver through the music business, but he wanted to do more! The DJ Swetmusic we know now was inspired to transition to DJing by just continuously hearing dope music and seeing other dope DJs do their thing! Now, he’s a part of an elite DJ family – SHOUTOUT TO THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJS!

We asked Swetmusic about his best and worst experience as a DJ and this is what he said, “My very first gig ever was the best [because] my name was in a local magazine along the bride and groom… My worst experience as a DJ was when my computer froze 4 times at an event, then I left, went home, and forgot my computer at the event location knowing I had a gig the next day.” Wow! Those are pretty memorable experiences.

Shout out to my Worldwide Fleet DJs and Secure the Vibe DJs family for allowing me to be a part of such dope coalitions! Much love to my friends, family, and fans. Shout out to Kentucky, my home!

DJ SWETMUSIC ON ACKNOWLEGDMENTS

SWETMUSIC IN THE FUTURE

Besides being a DJ, James also writes, raps, does artists/business interviews and is a “beat maker”. He released a new video this year for his song “40+” (shot by @tmtelevision) off of his “No Country for Old Men” project available on spinrilla.com, soundcloud, and Audiomack. He let us know that new music and videos will be rolling out in the first first quarter of 2022.

DJ Swetmusic says he appreciates all of the people who have been keeping up with him over the years – anyone who has ever supported and helped push him to continue things musically.

DO YOU! Stay true to who YOU are. Be consistent. Work on your craft EVERYDAY! Build relationships. Take risks. Build a good trustworthy network of like-minded people around you and LEARN THE BUSINESS!

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: DJ Mr. Yeah | @iamdjmryeah

FOR OVER TWO DECADES, THE FLEET DJ’S HAVE GROWN FROM A SMALL CREW TO A PROFICIENT COALITION WITH OVER 500 MEMBERS AND COUNTING. SINCE 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’S HAS CHANGED THE LIVES OF BOTH ITS MEMBERS AND THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY THEY HAVE THRIVED IN.
THESE ARE THE MEMBERS.
THESE ARE THEIR STORIES. WELCOME TO “THE FLEET FILES”

Today is all about the family! Shout out to Fleet DJ’s as a whole – they’re pretty dope! However, my spotlight this Monday is on Kentucky Fleet State Manager DJ Mr. Yeah. I met Mr. Yeah years prior to being Fleet family, but I confirmed that he is one of the COLDEST during my “March Madness: Battle of the Creatives” interview series. He really does make you say “yeeeaah” or “yaaaas” (for the ladies). Without further ado, let me give this man the flowers that he definitely deserves. Shoutout to the 502 for giving us this leader!

Courtesy of DJ Mr. Yeah

WHO IS DJ MR. YEAH?

As I said before, he is the Kentucky State Manager for Fleet DJ’s, which means all things Kentucky fall under him. However, he is really an overachiever. Think about those peers or co-workers you’ve had that were a part of every extra curricular. We aren’t mad at you for wanting to be well rounded and pursuing your dreams, but damn what will you do next? I love it, no doubt, it’s relatable. There’s no doubt that he could fill an entire resume with all of the stuff he currently does. The good thing is that he does it all well. Brand ambassador for online drink store Raze Energy, owner of 101 The Vibe FM where he co-hosts “The 502 R&B Show”, program director for K102 Digital, and owner of Imperial Apparel Worldwide. Not to mention he’s a G but that’s a whole different story in itself.

WHY SHOULD YOU BOOK HIM

As someone who listens to and receives music all week, I’m not easily impressed. This man impressed me this time around, with his flawless transitions and beautifully executed blends. I spoke with many DJs after our interview and they gave him the utmost respect. I guess you can say, he’s not new to this, but true to this. If you check out his social media, you will clearly see that he is booked and does not have time to play with y’all! Countless weeks of event appearances have proven that he is standing firm in longevity. Ladies’ nights, holidays, quiet storms, and so much more – his versatility keeps him nothing short of amazing! I hope his leadership skills bring together all of the Fleet creatives in Kentucky for admirable chapter results.

This position was [given] to me with hopes of bringing KY Fleet back on the map within Fleet Nation. I felt it was necessary to accept the offer to do my best to fulfill the task at hand. Since then we have added a good amount of quality members from DJs, hosts, engineers, producers, and MUAs to the KY Fleet Division. WE, not “I”, will continue on the same path from here on out. So, I feel that what is [not] being done since I’ve moved to State Manager from Assistant State Manager, is being done in its beginning stages. We still have work to do.

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: DJ Pynk Dyamond | @dcsmodel_djpynkdyamond

Name: DJ Pynk Dyamond

FLeet DJ Since: 2021

Location:(Orgin: Bronx, New York) Current: Fredericksburg, VIRGINIA

Region: EAST REGION FLEET DJ’S/ViRGINIA Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS DJ PYNK DYAMOND?

Hailing from Richmond Virginia, DJ PYNK DYAMOND has both a style and drive that is all her own. As a member of the Fleet DJ’s, she wears several hats and dons them well. Not only is she a member of 2Fli Female Division of Fleet and a Fleet Model, but she is also the Virginia State Manager of Fleet. Even before joining the #1 DJ coalition in the world, Pynk Dyamond was involved with music from a young age.

“When I was 9 years old I began playing an instrument called a Fluteophone. Then I learned how to play the French horn and trumpet when I got in 6th grade. I continued all the way through high school, where I made 1st chair in my school band’s trumpet line!” It was from that point her passion for music was born. “I have a really good ear for music, so much that I learned how to play without having to read notes!”

I asked her what songs she has in her current playlist. “Respectfully” by Suga J, “Cookout” by Luce Cannon and LOTS of House/EDM Music!” (laughs). All DJ’s have a rhyme and a reason for their stage name. I asked Pynk how she came up with hers. “Well at first, I called myself Dj Lady B, but I saw too many others with the same name. I thought about it. I love the color pink and I love diamonds, so I put the two together but I had to spell it differently. Too many others had the regular spelling. But once I bought the domain of my name, I spelled it my way!”

PYNK DYAMOND’S MISSION

Also known as Becky G, Pynk Dyamond is an advocate of chasing dreams. She possesses five college degrees, owns her own business and is an affiliate of nine different radio show programs. “I’m here to show the world that women can follow and achieve any goal that they have!” I asked her about the peaks and valleys that she’s dealt with since becoming a DJ. “One of the worst experiences was not being respected by some male counterparts. They thought that because I am a female I can’t do what they do. I overlooked that. Because regardless of being a female DJ, I will be the best at what I do in the business.”

So what can we expect from Pynk moving forward? “I have various things on the horizon. In particular, I am getting ready for the holiday event on the Cruise Lines that I work for! I am also involved now with our Christmas Toy Drive coming with the Fleet DJs East Coast Region.” Pynk Dyamond is always working to break the next artist to aide them in their dreams. I asked her what advice can she give to up and coming artists looking to be the next big thing.

“The most important piece of advice is to learn how to market your brand, no matter whether you are an artist or DJ. Marketing is very important to your craft. If you don’t let people know what you doing in that craft, then how will they know who you are?” I asked Pynk with all that she has going on, where does she find inspiration to continue on her path to her goals. “Music has always been inspiration enough for me. I listen to music to soothe my soul on a daily basis.

You can heal someone’s pain through music. It’s a great way to learn about different cultures through genres of music. Without music, there is no inspiration.

DJ Pynk Dyamond on what inspired her to become a DJ

IN CLOSING

DJ Pynk Dyamond has nothing but love and appreciation for her Fleet DJ family! ” I like to give Fleet Shouts to DJ P-Money, DJ Ms. Tan, Klassik CEO, DjHot1, DJ Cook, Dino and Heavy Hustle of KHUR Radio, DJ Skinny, DJ L Boogie, DJ Baby G, DJ Bobby Blaze of TX, DJ Pinkie, and outside of Fleet DJs is DJ Nate of Richmond VA, and Cruz Sherman of Cruz Inc Radio.”

THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS FOIVOS FROM Greece.
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW.

Live Performance

SOMag: What are your Names? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
F: My name is Foivos Zacharopoulos and I’m from Greece. I actually wasn’t thinking of
becoming a professional musician. I was proposed to substitute a guitarist at the age of
sixteen, just for a month, and that was it. I was fortunate and capable enough to do a good
job, so I was offered a place in the band. After 22 years, the story goes on.

SOMag: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
F: Inspiration can be found everywhere, as long as you keep your mind open. So, it’s not a
certain thing that gets me inspired. It can be literally anything.

SOMag: How would you describe your sound?
F: I remember John Petrucci saying for one album Dream Theater recorded, that he wanted his
sound to be, like a three-floor chocolate cake, with melted chocolate in between. Couldn’t
describe it better. Just huge and sweet.

SOMag: What is your creative process like?
F: Depends on the mood. Sometimes, I get a melody stuck in my head, so I go and record it
and go from there. There are times when I just fool around with a sound, and a riff comes
out or a chord progression. Usually, it’s a sound, which gets me in the zone of creation, from
any instrument.

SOMag: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
F: Sting is at the top of that list. His music is so versatile and interesting for anyone who plays
music or just loves listening to.

SOMag: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
F: Keep supporting bands and musicians that you enjoy their music. It’s the only way for any of
them, to keep doing what they love and also gives courage to new musicians and bands to
start doing what they want the most. To play music.

SOMag: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
F: Well, I can cook really well. The whole process of cooking a meal, is quite relevant to a
creation of a song. You have to have quality products, and everything must be in the right
quantity. Also give time and love. It always has better and satisfying results..

SOMag: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
F: I have no idea. I can’t imagine myself doing something different than being a musician.
Perhaps something that might involve animals and protecting or caring them.

SOMag: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
F: I admire any artist that innovates in his field, or tries to think outside of the box and
experiment with his art. From Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to Meshuggah and Pain of
Salvation, the list goes on and on..

Be patient and don’t rush things. And always speak up for myself, whenever I feel wronged
in any way.

Foivos when asked What is the best advice you’ve been given?

SOMag: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
F: From the very moment that something gives you profit, problems start to appear. The more
profit, the more people are drawn to it. The more people usually mean, not loving music or
the product in general, but the money that comes from it. So, I’d change the people that
have no interest in music, with some that do have some interest and love music first and
foremost.

SOMag: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
F: If all goes well, with the Covid (Quarantine) situation, start performing live and communicate my music,
as much as possible, is the number one priority. In one year from now, I’d like to see myself
recording a full album and then go touring for a long time..

[LA BODEGA] QUARANTINE TALK: immortalizer

WELCOME TO QUARANTINE TALK, WHERE WE’VE HELD VARIOUS CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTIST’S & GROUPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD VIA ZOOM, EMAIL, SOCIAL MEDIA EVEN PLAIN OLD PHONE CONVERSATIONS.

WELCOME TO THE 20TH EDITION OF QUARANTINE TALK.
THE ARTIST WE HAVE TODAY IS IMMORTALIZER FROM Ontario, Ottawa.
YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR CONVERSATION DOWN BELOW.

Who Is Immortalizer?

SOMag: What are your Names? where you’re from and what first got you interested in the
entertainment industry?
I: My name is Dave D.R. I’m originally from Ottawa, Ontario. My interest in music began when I was
very young, My uncle was a professional drummer in the 80’s and 90’s and he was a huge influence
on me, By the time I was 7 years old I knew music was my path in life.

SOMag: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
I: I find inspiration everywhere. From my past, day to day life, horror films, literature, and the list goes
on. I like to write about things I’ve experienced first hand, but I’ll write songs about anything of
interest.

SOMag: How would you describe your sound?
I: I think the best way to describe it is classic style Heavy Metal, with a bit of contemporary Metal
mixed in as well.

SOMag: What is your creative process like?
I: Most of the time everything begins with me jamming on guitar. I’ll just be improvising and suddenly
I’ll play a riff that really stands out and as I play I start to get ideas for lyrics and the full
orchestration. I later use those as a guide when I’m recording. Sometimes a cool bass riff or
keyboard riff can start things off as well. It’s one of the upsides of being a multi-instrumentalist.

SOMag: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
I: I would love to collaborate with Ralf Scheepers, Rob Halford, Biff Byford, Kai Hansen, Andi Deris,
Steve Harris, Michael Schenker and several others!

SOMag: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
I: Thank you so much for supporting Immortalizer. It’s Metalheads like you that help keep me going
and I’m extremely grateful to you all! \m/

SOMag: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?
I: That’s a good question. I consider music to be my greatest talent/skill of course, but aside from
music I think I would have to say my drawing ability. I’ve always loved to draw. I love designing
album covers and I design my tattoos as well.

SOMag: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
I: I think I would probably be making films. I’ve always loved movies and I considered a career in film. I
even went to film school for a short time before permanently setting my sights on music.

SOMag: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?
I: I greatly admired Lemmy of Motörhead. His I live my life my way attitude always resonated with me.
I also greatly admired his distinctive bass playing style and his song writing ability. I also greatly
admire Ralf Scheepers. His passion for Metal is truly inspiring. Not to mention his legendary vocal
ability. He is one of the best Metal singers of all time in my opinion.
Rob Halford is definitely another person I greatly admire. For his incredible vocal talents and his
courage. It took a lot of guts to be one of the first openly gay Metal stars despite the risks to his
career. The full list would be far too long, but I’d say those are the top three.

SOMag: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
I: I think the best advice I’ve ever been given came from my uncle Paul when I was a kid. He told me to
never give up on my dreams and to not listen to anyone who tries to put you down and tell you you
can’t succeed in music.

SOMag: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I: Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I would love to see more music venues, (bars and music halls) opening
back up and having live music so bands have more places to play live.

SOMag: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
I: Well, I plan to continue writing and recording my full-length album as I search for the right label and
management company to help propel Immortalizer to new heights! By this time next year I hope to
have finished the album and found a band to be able to play shows and tour as well as grow as a
band.
