Straight Official Sit Downs: Isiah Palmer

Isiah Palmer
Isiah Palmer

ISIAH PALMER is not only an emerging artist from the nineteenth state, but is also the focal point of this edition of Straight Official Sit-Downs. Check out his convo with @klassikceo down below and check out more interviews right here.

Q&A WITH ISIAH PALMER

Q: What is your Name? Where are you from and what first got you interested in the entertainment
industry?

I’m Isiah Palmer and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I first became interested in the entertainment industry at a very early age as I really wanted to be an actor. I started becoming involved in musicals in my church and also acted with a local civic theater company. Singing and acting became my passion. However, acting was something that was picked up very naturally and came easy to me.

Q: Who and/or what inspires you to create?

Honestly, just living life to its fullest is the best inspiration! Life experiences truly inspire me to create…you can say that my life experiences truly push me forward in ways that may be difficult to explain. I not only have the opportunity to speak on things I’m going through at the time, but I also find that I truly enjoy the process; whether it be songwriting, rapping, singing, performing live to name a few, and am dedicated to bettering myself and my craft with every song I write or through every unbelievable opportunity I find coming my way.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Q: How would you describe your sound?

Hmmm, I’ve been told by others that I have a unique inner fire to create. I just let it happen. I do not try to achieve a certain sound but again just let the process happen. In doing so, I’ve also been told that I am not beholden to any single genre. Therefore, my songs may have Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Rock, and many other influences. I do though find myself composing more melodies with rap vocals…something about that percussive feeling.

Q: What is your creative process like?

At present, I find myself creating while I am around incredibly talented and creative people, my friends, and we are in the studio just having fun.

Q: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

Gerard Way, Drake, and Kanye West.

Isiah Palmer

I enjoy telling everyone to believe in themselves. Always treat people with respect. You never know who can change your life.

Isiah Palmer’s message to his fans

Q: What is a skill you have that most people don’t know about?

That’s easy…I love basketball! And, I ended up quitting both singing and acting early on in my life due to my love for basketball. I had my hopes set on joining my high school team but unfortunately that did not happen. My family moved several times during this time and I never gave up wanting to play basketball.

I finally ended up at a private, non-denominational Christian school where I made the team. We actually won a state championship and I received a basketball scholarship to play in college. While at college I was injured thus ending my basketball career.

Q: What would you be doing right now if you weren’t doing music?

If I were not making music, I would be acting and modeling.

IN CLOSING

Q: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

I was blessed to have grown up around hit-making producer Chucky Thompson. He was my dear friend and mentor whom I worked closely with. His tremendous influence on my music can be felt to this day. His death from Covid was super hard on me, and I took it personal to be the best artist I can be.

Also, Gerard Way and My Chemical Romance as they were the first CD I ever received. Wiz Khalifa due to his military background and Kanye West because he is a different artist making generational music.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

To build and keep a healthy circle. This means finding and keeping people around who are not only positive but who really want to see you become successful on your own terms!

Q: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I really wish many more artists would have opportunities to be great. I feel we have outlets for artists to receive help, but we are not really giving indie artists the blueprint to be successful.

Q: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

I am incredibly blessed to be building a remarkable team and we are singularly focused on promoting my new
single entitled ADIOS. We really believe in the record. I am looking forward to performing live for larger audiences whether they be supporting slots or headlining small gigs to big festivals.

Q: What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

Everyone can follow me on Instagram. You can add me at @isiah.palmer

THEE INKREDIBLE DJ KLASIK Js. A noteworthy manager, a well respected online radio host with his station “J Kristyle Indie Radio”, Fleet DJ of Memphis where he provides artist opportunities and services, and an overall well rounded individual.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee James C. Everett knew from early on that he was destined to be in the music industry. Even with his dreams, he took time to know the business side first. “There are so many businesses & brands that offer the same services. I wanted to separate myself from the competition by being the difference.”

This would allow him to officially join the frey in January of 2013. His brand would bring warm highlights to the bitter winter months. His radio station is a worldwide web based internet radio, with many notable artists ranging from Adele to Lil Durk, to the catchy tunes of Da Baby, French Montana and many more artists worldwide.

J Kristyle

J KRISTYLE MANAGEMENT

J Kristyle is more than just a brand. It’s a network of artists, tastemakers, and talent agents seeking the next superstar. To date his firm represents 2 artists. First Lady Mo Money, and motivational Hip-Hop artist Money Matt®.

As a promoter and an online radio DJ, James takes precedence for the unsigned hype. I asked him about any takeaways from his journey. He spoke on the one that means something to him. “I want to be a blessing to all the unheard independent artists. I like being able to see the smiles on their faces when they hear their music on the radio.”

Over the next several years, look to find J Kristyle as a major competitor in not only independent music, but the music industry as a whole. Be on the lookout for mixtapes & an Independent Artist Vol 18 for J Kristyle Indie Radio and more.

IN CLOSING

Come in the industry working hard consistently, invest in yourself and travel.

J Kristyle’s advice to upcoming DJs

As a DJ I had to know what he’s listening to currently. “I have a bunch of independent and major artists in my current playlists. To name a couple of songs Beestang – Meet The Ratchets, Young Adolph – Major and Hall of Fame, Yo Gotti – Gangsta Art. When I asked about the meaning behind his name, he kept it simple. “I got my name as J (f0r James) and Chris (Kristyle).”

SOMag Presents “The Fleet Files” With Fleet DJ’s: Kim Da SSB | @mzkim2012

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 500 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

Kim Da SSB

Name: KIM DA SSB

FLeet DJ Since: 2021

Location: MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

Region: SOUTH REGION/TENNESSEE Fleet DJ’s

WHO IS KIM DA SSB?

KIM DA SSB is not only a member of the Worldwide Fleet DJ’s, but also an example of how one person’s faith and works can elevate them to unbelievable heights. I asked about her desire to become a DJ and if she had influences. “Honestly, I was scared to death to play music for my show or events alone (laughs). DJ Stylz pushed me out of my comfort zone and told me I could do it. Once I learned the basics and how I could make people happy, I was hooked!”

Kim has established herself amongst her male counterparts as part of the Fleet DJ’s. Currently the Assistant State Manager of Tennessee Fleet, she’s also a full time mom who finds time to be an entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Her passion for engaging people in conversation can also been seen in the digital pages of Straight Official Magazine via her Cocktails & Conversation column.

Entertaining and creating a vibe gives her great pleasure. Kim has acted as a host, moderator and MC for various events around the Memphis area. Her advice to anyone pursuing their dreams was downright spiritual. “First allow God to show you a path and a purpose. If this industry is truly for you, no one will be able to stand in your way!”

Kim Da SSB

I consider myself a Musical Bartender.

Kim Da SSB on why she became a DJ

KIM’S MORE THAN JUST A DJ

Also known as the Soulful Social Butterfly, Kim Shropshire also counts success in being an advocate for those who are unable to. Outside of being a personality, she is the founder of I’m A.L.I.V.E. (Accepting Live Is Very Essential). A business that houses the various ways she tries to reach the masses by way of motivational speaking, merchandise, and entertainment.

Kim is a fighter for those who are victims of domestic violence and bullying. At one point in her life, she has danced with those two things. As a survivor, she strives to show the importance of self love and your worth in hopes that others will find the courage to leave those situations.

Serving the community and motivating others to LIVE is a passion she takes pride in. Kim mentors a group of young girls ages 7-17 monthly. The goal is to expose them to as many opportunities as possible and show them how to love themselves.

Kim Da SSB

My name is Kim Da SSB. Originally it was the Soulful Social Butterfly. That was difficult for people, men especially to say. After hearing three people call me SSB I knew I had to make a change.

Kim on how she came up with her name

WHAT’S KIM DA SSB UP TO?

When she isn’t being a advocate and a DJ, Kim has her hands on a number of different projects. “I am serving as a host to a virtual event for the youth who would like to get into the music business.” Over the summer, Kim put together the Party With a Purpose event where she launched her brand of customized t-shirts and merchandise.

I asked Kim about her experiences as a DJ. One positive time came from her being in the right place at the right time. “The best experience was filling in for a DJ friend at my favorite Karaoke spot. He got sick at the last minute and I had my laptop and hard drive with me.” Her one negative experience came from technology. “The worst experience is during my radio show. I had some technical difficulties and I had to act fast, while broadcasting live.”

IN CLOSING

Kim Da SSB with Jay Mill
Kim Da SSB & Chief Editor Jay Mill at the 11th Annual Fleet DJ

Kim is an amazing addition to both the Fleet DJS & Straight Official Magazine. Her spirit and energy help to liven any event where she is hosting. We even had the privilege of flying in together to attend the 11th Annual Fleet DJ Music Conference where she and the ladies of 2Flix3 did an amazing job at the Meet and Greet event.

I gave Kim the floor to shout out anyone she wanted. “I would love to say thank you a million times to everyone who has played a part in this new chapter of my life. Friends, family, Fleet, artist, and fans you know who you are. Please understand the love I have for you all runs deep. I thank you for listening to me brainstorm ideas, supporting my events and showering me with love. It is my prayer that the transparency I provide will give you the encouragement you need to follow your dreams.”

Interview: Israeli Recording Artist Or Golan

Or Golan

OR GOLAN is a 23-year-old Israeli musician and composer. He has been stuttering since he was 3 and is a patient with FMF, which is an arthritis that causes pain from prolonged exertion. But he hasn’t let that stop him from his dreams of creating great music for the world to hear. He’s created over 100 songs and written 4 books. We caught up with Or to learn more about his music and goals.

Q&A WITH OR GOLAN

Q: How did you get started with music?

Everyone has something different; the talent is yours and it is given to you by God. In May 2020 I had the feeling that I was supposed to make music, just like that, I don’t know where it came from, because I never learned musical notes or anything like that. The first album was Superstar Baby and since then it’s all history, I started my life and I won’t let people say I’m gone, I’m here forever, for life.

Do you have any family members with musical talent?

If they had any musical or artistic sense, I would have already jumped off the building 🙂

Q: How has your stutter affected you creating music?

When I was asked this question in an interview a year ago on a radio program in Boston, I said that my talent is only mine, I choose what to do with it and there I have no limitation whatsoever. But today I will say that without the stammer no one would have listened to me because I don’t have an interesting story to tell, and my songs would have been thrown away

Q: You’re also an accomplished author. Can you tell us more about your books?

My love is to write, and I did it, it was fun my daughter used to write four books (all in Hebrew). Talent takes you and throws you to other districts or some such messages and it’s fun, I think anyone can write, the question is if you do it well?

OR GOLAN’S CREATIVE PROCESS

Q: What is your process like when you create a song?

A B C D H W Z H and so on, just kidding 🙂
I never learned musical notes, theories, from music books and such, I don’t have it. God gave me a huge talent because he gave me all the melodies complete in my head, so yes.

Q: How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard you before?

There was an article a few months ago about me and they wrote that I have an artistic mind, so only art and that’s what I like

Q: What is your ultimate goal with your music?

When all this I did with one song that worked for me:
over 206,000 copies of singles have been sold: Times Square, Radio Plays, Articles, Radio and television interviews, my music has entered more than 70 countries.

Over 10000 radio plays for the song I Am Greedy worldwide
9 times first place in the radio charts
16 radio interviews to audiences of millions of listeners
4 TV appearances in Brazil to an audience of 2.5 million viewers
More than 20 official remixes for the song I am Greedy

What else do you wish me to do?

IN CLOSING

Q: Where can we find you online?

Just search on Google Or Golan – I Am Greedy and Google will do the rest.

Q: Any final thoughts or shout outs?

Life is a mystery
Everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name
And it feels like home 🙂

Straight Official Sit Downs: JREALITYG

JREALITYG is an emerging talent coming out of the Florida area. He got the opportunity to chop it up with @klassikceo and it was indeed a vibe. Check out their convo down below!

Q: What is your Name? Where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

My name is JREALITYG. I’m from Jasper, FL.  Shout out to Jasper! My interest piqued as I watched BET’s Rap City: The Basement and 106 & Park  during my pre-teen years. Once I discovered I could rap, I set goals for my music to be heard internationally.

Q: Who and/or what inspires you to create?

First and foremost, I love the sport of Hip-Hop.  I love to create songs.  I love to write my own lyrics and can ghostwrite for other artists of any genre. My kids and a voracious desire to see what I am fully capable of achieving inspires me.  I will never give up.  Plus, I want to show my kids what sheer tenacity and stick-to-itiveness looks like when you refuse to give up on your dreams, regardless of what’s in your path.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Q: How would you describe your sound?

I would say that it’s catchy, lyrical, rememberable and timeless

Q: What is your creative process like?

My creative process comes in variations. Most often, it presents itself as vibes, melodies and different cadences. If I hear a beat I like and it talks to me, I talk back.  Ideas always  pop up in my head so I immediately express those ideas to my producer.

Q: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

Jay Z, J Cole, Kanye West, Cyhi, Drake, Rick Ross, Jasmine Sullivan, Ari Lennox and Tink would be my top picks.

Put God first. Go Hard. Believe in yourself and surround yourself with like-minded individuals.

JREALITYG’s message to his supporters

IN CLOSING

Q: What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

I’m actually a dope barber. I’ve fed myself plenty of days by cutting hair.  I’m also a professional driver. I acquired my CDL license 7 years ago.

Q: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

I would open a few barber shops then use the profits to invest in the trucking industry.

Q: Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

Jay Z, Kanye West and Rick Ross.  I like what they represent. Plus, all of them came from the trenches.  I truly respect the fact that they used whatever they had to become super successful business moguls and entertainers.

Cyhi, I set him aside because of his story and his pen game.  He does a lot behind the scenes as a ghostwriter. He motivates me to stay on my A-game.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Keep GOD FIRST and never let someone else determine your capabilities.

Q: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The music industry needs not to focus on who has the most money but who creates the best content. The industry also needs to provide more opportunities to those who are less fortunate.

Q: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

I see myself performing before larger venues, touring and starring in a few movies.  The brand is expanding to include international traffic, endorsements and collaborations.  I close my eyes and I see myself on stage performing at the Superbowl, BET Awards, Rolling Loud and the Grammys.

Straight Official Sit Downs: Jovan Marie

JOVAN MARIE is an R&B artist on the rise. Straight Official had the pleasure of catching up with her to chop it up about her moves and motives.

Q&A WITH JOVAN

Introduce yourself to our readers. What first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

My name is Jovan Marie and I was born in Vallejo, California. I began singing
at a young age. While I noticed early I had a talent and passion, I didn’t think much into the industry itself. I focused on the magic and freedom I heard in every voice on the radio.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

In my musical journey my mother and my community are the constants. I loved and idolized artists like Prince, Whitney, Mariah and Beyonce. I would be dishonest if I did not mention that
everyone I’ve ever heard from any genre has inspired me to create. My gift inspires me and challenges me as well.

How would you describe your sound?

I am very grateful that I have my own sound. I’m classically trained and have dedicated many years to Christian chorus , worship and solo music. Over the years I focused on diversity. I appreciate the art form itself.
It allowed me to gravitate towards all genres which in turn, helped me to become a versatile artist.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What was your process in coming up with this song?

For Real Good Love , the lyric content came from the heart. I set up a session with Coe.b out of Los Angeles. I had a 2 hour slot time and my objective was to complete the song in that time. On Passion and Pressure he produced and engineered the song for me at his apartment. I took it home and knocked it out. I was inspired to add some Hip-Hop flavor to the track.

If you could add somebody to the song who would it be and why?

I would only choose Go Head Boy . It would be a woman who empowered to release her anger yet take a humble route. It would be nice if she was from the Bay Area. Or simply Beyonce.

My spirit and experiences shapes all of my expressions. I’m observant and sensitive. I express big. It’s just me.

Jovan Marie on how she is influenced

Who is Jovan Marie outside of music ?

Outside of music I’m a mother. A 9 years old girl gift with many talents as well. She sings and creates music. It’s an honor to support and encourage her. I work in hospitality and have educated myself in financial literacy and multiple streams of income and investments.

What’s the craziest thing a fan said to you ?

The craziest thing fan said to me was, “I’ll drink your bath water and wipe myself in your sweat.” They said it would give them my powers (laughs)

I will never stop doing music or performing. It’s in me to thrive off my expression. Longevity in it means life.

Jovan Marie

IN CLOSING

Is there something you would change if you could with your project or song ?

I would always desire a team to assist with perfecting the sound, having more fund and minds involved brings more energy and success to any project.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself next year?

I’d like to see investors, a deal with a major label, collabs with up and coming artist and established. More rapports with talented musicians and producers. I want to perform on stages where people come to see me and
other gifted artists.

This is a fun question. If stranded on an island, what 4 things would you have to have ?

I would have to say camping gears, form of communication, protection and food.

What would you tell a person not to do in the music biz ?

Never let your ego get in front of your passion.
