Straight Official Sit Downs: The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol. 2 | Emory Jaymz @emoryjaymz

Emory Jaymz
Photo Cred: Emory Jaymz VEVO

EMORY JAYMZ took the hot seat for this installment of Straight Official Sit Downs where we spotlight emerging artists. Continuing our look into The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol. 2 mixtape hosted by DJ P Money, @TenthLetterMedia served up the questions and we got to know him as an artist. Check out the one-on-one down below!

Q&A WITH EMORY JAYMZ

Introduce yourself to our readers. Let us know where you’re from and what interested you in the entertainment industry?

Yo, what’s up! I’m Emory Jaymz, reppin’ Nashville, TN aka Music City. Growing up here, music was always in my face, but I found my lane in Hip-Hop. What really pulled me in was the way music can make people feel something real—it connects people. I knew early on I wanted to be part of that energy, telling my story through the beats, the bars and just having that real impact.

Who and or what inspires you to create?

Man, life itself inspires me. Everything I’ve been through, the good and the bad—it all ends up in my music. I get inspired by the hustle, by the grind. I look around and see people pushing, trying to make something of themselves, and that’s what lights a fire under me. Plus, when I hear a dope beat, I just want to go off. Music is a way to speak my truth, and that’s where the inspiration really comes from.

How would you describe your sound/style?

My style? It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s versatile. I like to mix lyrical storytelling with high-energy tracks that get people hype. It’s got that Southern flavor but with a blend of soulful vibes too. I’m not afraid to switch it up—whether it’s something deep or just a straight banger, I’m bringing that authentic feel every time.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Tell us about your creative process. What are some things you need in order to create?

When it’s time to create, it’s all about setting the right vibe. I need something top tier to smoke on. I need the beat to hit, and if it’s speaking to me, I just start freestyling until I catch something that feels right. From there, I build on it. I like having a space where I can zone out and lock in. A little solitude, maybe some late-night sessions—that’s when the magic happens. I stay focused, keep it real, and just let the music flow.

Who are some artists that you’d love to collaborate with?

Man, there’s a lot of talent out there. I’d love to link up with Peezy, BigXThaPlug, Money Man or even someone like Kanye who brings a whole different energy. I’m all about collaborating with artists that push boundaries and aren’t afraid to be themselves. I think blending styles makes for some of the dopest music.

LETS SHIFT GEARS

Emory Jaymz

Always invest in yourself. If you don’t believe in your own craft and put the time and money into it, nobody else will. Bet on yourself every time.

Tell us about a skill or ability you have that no one knows about.

A lot of people don’t know this, but I’m nice behind the camera too. I run Nash City Media, so when I’m not on the mic, I’m out here directing, producing, and shooting visuals. That creative side comes out in more ways than just music, and I think people would be surprised how deep I go into the visual side of things.

If it wasn’t for music, what would you be doing right now?

If it wasn’t for music, I’d still be grinding in the creative field. Probably full-time in video production or something like that. I’m too deep in the art to not be creating something, whether it’s music, visuals, or even writing. I just gotta stay creating, no matter what.

Who inspires you? Is there anyone you admire, be it an artist or a person?

I’m inspired by people who took their hustle and turned it into something bigger than themselves. Nipsey Hussle was one of those people who really showed how to stay true to your roots and build something lasting. I admire people who keep it real, who grind through the obstacles and make their own path.

IN CONCLUSION

If given the opportunity to change one thing about the industry, what would it be and why?

I’d change the way the industry overlooks independent artists. There’s so much talent out there that doesn’t get the shine it deserves because they don’t have major label backing. I’d love to see more platforms that support indie artists, give them the resources and opportunities without taking away their creative control. Let the real ones shine without all the industry politics.

Emory Jaymz

You’re a featured artist on The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol.2 Mixtape hosted by DJ P-Money. Tell us about this project and how this came together.

Being on Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol. 2 is an honor. DJ P-Money reached out after hearing some of my work, and it felt like the right move. This project is about bringing that authentic Hip-Hop vibe back, no fluff, just real music. It’s a blend of the old-school feel with new voices, and I’m excited to be part of something that celebrates the roots of the culture while pushing it forward.

LYRICS is an aspiring Hip-Hop artist that stopped by our headquarters for this edition of Straight Official Sit Downs. This episode spotlights Lyrics and the other artists who are part of The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol.2 mixtape . Check out the one-on-one down below and click here for more editions of Straight Official Sit Downs!

Q&A WITH LYRICS

Introduce yourself to our readers. Let us know where you’re from and what interested you in the entertainment industry?

My name is Lyrics. I’m a rapper from NJ. I have had a love for rap music since I was a young kid. I have wanted to be in the industry since I was a shorty. When I saw my sister make it, I knew that’s why I definitely wanted to do with my life.

Who and or what inspires you to create?

Honestly, I get inspiration anytime I listen to good music. Whenever I listen to a dope song or project I automatically get inspiration and start working on music immediately.

How would you describe your sound/style?

I’m an old soul. So I would describe my sound as soulful. I’m the king of the double & triple entendres. So I’m going to always try to give you some thought provoking music with clever metaphors and wordplay.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Tell us about your creative process. What are some things you need in order to create?

My process is simple. I don’t like a lot of people around when I’m creating. All I need is a fire track & a bottle of Titos & I’m good (laughs).

Who are some artists that you’d love to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with J. Cole, Rapsody, Black Thought, Styles P, Scarface, LiL Brother, Ransom and my all time favorite rapper Big Daddy Kane.

SHIFTING GEARS

Tell us about a skill or ability you have that no one knows about.

I’m an amazing cook. I could really be a chef in somebody’s restaurant.

Lyrics

The best advice I received was to stay true to me, be myself and be confident in myself always.

If it wasn’t for music, what would you be doing right now?

I would probably be working on starting my own takeout restaurant, which I’m planning to do in the near future anyway.

Who inspires you? Is there anyone you admire, be it an artist or a person?

My mother. She passed away in 2016 but before she passed, she told me that I was just as talented as any rapper alive and to keep going. So that’s my inspiration right there.

If given the opportunity to change one thing about the industry, what would it be and why?

I would stop these major labels from trying to dictate to us what’s dope and what’s not. They have no idea what a dope artist is for the most part.

You’re a featured artist on The Rebirth of Hip-Hop Vol.2 Mixtape hosted by DJ P-Money. Tell us about this project and how this came together.

Well I remember getting an invite to hop on a Zoom call. I had no idea what it was about but I knew I’d be on that call. When I hopped on, P-Money explained he was working on a mixtape and needed the illest spitters to be a part of the project.

The project is fully produced by P so we spent a few hours listening to tracks & picking which one we wanted to rock over. So me and a bunch of rappers picked out what we liked and the rest is history.

SOMag Presents The Fleet Files With Fleet DJs: DJ WillyBangz | @djwillybangz

For over two decades, the fleet dj’s has grown from a small crew to a proficient coalition with over 700 members and counting. since 2001, THE WORLDWIDE FLEET DJ’s has changed the lives of both its members and the entertainment industry they have thrived in.

These are the members. These are Their Stories. THESE ARE “THE FLEET FILES”

Name: DJ WillyBangz

FLeet DJ Since: 2021

Location: New York City, New York

Region: NORTHEAST REGION/CONNECTICUT Fleet DJ’s

DJ WillyBangz

WHO IS DJ WILLYBANGZ?

DJ WillyBangz is genetically linked to being a DJ. Even before joining the Worldwide Fleet DJs, he was told at a young age this was his destiny. When I asked what drove him to become a DJ he confirmed, “I decided to become a DJ when my mom told me that I had it in my blood. I asked her what makes her say that and she told me that my father was a DJ, as well as my uncle.”

William Ubiles vested time into his craft, spending 10 hours a day perfecting his style. From transitioning records, remixing songs and mastering scratches that he wanted to learn how to do. Even conquering the art of what is called beat juggling in the DJ culture, he wanted to be the total package and that he is! WillyBangz would soon become known as DJ WillyBangz The Crowd Controller.

I asked Willy about the decision to join the Fleet DJs and he spoke on the coalition’s reputation. “I decided to become a Fleet DJ after hearing a lot of great things about the coalition from a long time friend, (Blackstorm) who is heavily involved in the music industry as well. He knew the skills that I possess and recommended that I become a Fleet DJ. After I did my home work on the coalition I said to myself this is something that I should do.”

DJ WillyBangz

At 13 my mom bought me a video tape. It was a DMC DJ Battle. After seeing that and becoming fascinated with the art form, I knew this is what I wanted to do in life.

DJ Willybangz draws inspiration from witnessing legendary DJs receive acclaim and acknowledgment. From greats like Kid Capri, Red Alert & Funkmaster Flex they have given him confirmation that he belongs. “Looking at their accomplishments, rewards and achievements gives me the inspiration I need to keep going. It lets me know that theirs room for me in this business & industry cause I got a lot going on.”

I asked Willy about the ups and downs of being a DJ. He spoke highly on being the best option saying, “When I do a party my goal is to not only satisfy my crowd to full capacity, but also satisfy whoever booked me as well. If it drives them to the point where they tip for my performance on top of my regular pay, this lets me know I’ve done my job & then some.”

As a member of Fleet, Willy dons several hats. He is co-owner, Program Director, & Social Media Manager of Vibing 102.3 MMR. He is responsible for 2 radio shows. The Back To The Future Radio Show which airs Thursday nights at 7pm EST. In addition, he runs Thee Almighty Mix Show which airs Saturday nights at 8pm EST on Strongside Radio which is located on the Fleet Radio Network app.

Every DJ has significance about how they got their stage name. Willy spoke on how he came up with his moniker. “I got my name by always being good at whatever I put my mind to. When I was a kid I wanted to draw, so I drew until I became good at it. It’s like when you say that someone “rocks” but I’m using the word “bangz” instead. So when I became great at DJ’ing, that is where I came up with WillyBangz and I just put the DJ in front.”

When he’s not listening to national artists like Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G, Willy is listening to his own music. When I asked him what can we expect from him moving forward, he gave us plenty to look forward to. “I currently have 3 mixtapes out under my Hip-Hop Havoc Mixtape Series Volume 1 & 2. They can be found on MyMixtapes.com, MixtapeFactory.com & Hip Hop Havoc. Volume 3 can be found on LiveMixtapes.com as well as MyMixtapes.com.”

When I asked Willy about any jewels of wisdom he would give to aspiring DJs he spoke on visualization. “Look at the industry as if it were a puzzle, vision the bigger picture in your head and start to put the pieces in place. Even the ones that don’t work at the moment matter, put them on the side cause you will eventually need them to complete the goal at the end of the day.

He continued, “It will take time but keep going because before you know it your mental creative picture will come full circle and the project of your future in this industry will become a beautiful portrait / painting that you will be able to frame surrounded by your accolades, never give up.”

DJ WillyBangz

It’s like a way of saying that something or somebody “rocks” but I’m using the word “bangz” instead. DJ WillyBangz, feel me.

DJ WillyBangz

I had the pleasure of meeting DJ WillyBangz at this year’s Fleet DJs Music Conference for the first time. His passion and drive make him a valuable member of the coalition.

I gave Willy the floor for shout outs and acknowledgement. “Let me give a super big shout out to my beautiful wife Elizabeth whom with out her support non of this would be possible. To my mom Janet & my second mom / aunt Ivette for all of their support throughout the years. My brother DJ Chill who is my business partner together we run Vibing 102.3 MMR (Moore Music Radio).

“Shout out to DJ Stone who is another of my business associates who helps us to keep the station running smoothly, Shout out to all my supporters out their who help me to push my brand, and a super big shout out to all of the artist who rock with me heavy who see my vision and are eager to bring it to life. I’d like to give all praises to the most high and invite everyone who took the time to read this to tune into my radio shows.”

“Last but most definitely not least you the reader who found my story interesting enough to read this fleet file long enough to get to this point, much love & big respect. Oh and don’t forget to catch me at a club, bar, or lounge near you, I’m outside you hearrrd!!! Salute.

Shif-T Da Nightchild Shares The Story Of Her Journey

shif-t da nightchild

We recently caught up with D.C native Shif-T Da Nightchild to talk about his latest single as well as getting a chance to know the DMV rapper & her journey through the rap game. Check out our one-on-one down below.

Q&A WITH SHIF-T DA NIGHTCHILD

DJ SPINS: How Did You Come Up With your Stage Name?

Well I was actually given the name Shif-T after collaborating on various music projects & performing with live bands. I’ve always real creative and versatile allowing me to be able to tap into different genres and markets. My names comes from being able to switch up my style and shift gears musically at any given moment.

The name “Da NightChild” came along from my Mom RIP because I’ve been an insomniac since birth. I would always be up at night and like to sleep in the day time like a vampire. I always wanted to carry a piece of my mom with me so I added Da NightChild onto the name Shif-T.

Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I’ve been surrounded by music my whole life, but after doing various studio work and performing on stage with  live bands I just found an forever love for music.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

What inspires me the most is that I’m able to express myself unfiltered and I can give the world me authentically never mind the judgements or prejudices. Everyday we face something different so, I like to pull from experiences and create something beautiful. Life is a big puzzle so we all have the power to create the masterpiece our hearts desire. I’ve created some of my best work going through the struggle and music has been my biggest therapy.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

I like to call my sound Urban Goth because it’s a mixture of hip-hop, trap and rock.

What is your creative process like?

I’m an introverted extrovert so I prefer creating late nights alone in my own space of comfort. For the most, I can be found listening to instrumental music with my headphones on and just zoning out, and allowing my creative juices to go wild. Despite comfortability though, I’m very adaptive like a chameleon and always open to new surroundings and creating magic with others.

shif-t da nightchild

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with the greats like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Sade, Mary J Blige,  Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Linkin park.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would love to open up for Linkin Park or Lil Wayne.

RAPID FIRE ROUND

What is one message you would give to your supporters?

My biggest message, I would give to my supporters is that all things are possible through God & that we are the true controllers of our destiny. Feel free to change, switch directions, or adjust as many times as needed, because at the end of the day we all are entitled to peace and happiness and to walk in our own purpose and truth.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I don’t believe in any talent being useless. A talent is a gift and a real blessing for anyone to possess for real.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

If I wasn’t doing music, I would honestly study psychology and become a therapist. I love helping and uplifting others, and finding easier ways to navigate through life. It’s about living a fulfilling life and in abundance, and I truly want peace, unconditional love and happiness for the entire species.

Who are some artists you admire and why?

I admire 50 Cent because he’s not just an amazing artist with hits, but he’s an entertainer and a smart businessman and that’s what it takes to survive in this industry. The music business is about way more than music and you have to learn it if you want to become successful and have longevity in the game.

shif-t da nightchild

I would also, have to say I admire Lil Wayne because he is limitless stylistically and crosses barriers most are afraid to tap into. As an artist you have to evolve with the time and be creative enough to make a lifelong impact and he has done that ten times over.

IN CLOSING

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I was given was to learn the music business and not just my artistry.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

If I could change anything in the industry it would be the direction of female hip-hop. I would like to see us project more lyrical diversity. We are not all the same and have different visions and perspectives, so it would be great if we could have a safe space and a new lane to present that.

shif-t da nightchild

You Dropped Your Latest Release Earlier this Year. Tell Us About It.

I have my new single out it’s called “The Journey” and it’s giving you a sneak peek into my world of ups and downs as I continue on my road to success. I feel we all face our own share of struggles and sacrifice, so I wanted to present something everyone can definitely relate to.

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

In the next year, I want to drop more heart felt music for you to feel, set tours across the US & international, and make my brand (Phade 2 Green Productionz) a household name in the industry.

What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

My music is available on all streaming platforms. Feel free to follow The Journey…

Q&A WITH LIZZEN

What is your Name? Tell us where you are from and what first interested you in the entertainment industry?

My name is Lizzen. I’m from Akron, Ohio. In 2018 I released my first studio single and the community loved my sound and lyrics. That’s what made me start taking singing more seriously.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

The world around me inspires me to create stories as well as music, friends, myself and social media.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as unique and anointed, I don’t use auto tune, so my vocals are raw. What you hear is the real deal.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

What is your creative process like?

Creating for me is all day process. I may stumble across something while scrolling social media or just out in the lawn.. at the grocery store, whatever I can turn into a story is what I do. I don’t have a process it’s naturally in me.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

At the moment I don’t have a specific artist. Honestly, I’m just glad my sound and music is finally getting heard around the world! I really stay in my own lane. I’m so focused on being a better artist day by day that I don’t really listen to other R&B artist I listen to a lot of gospel. Whoever is down to collaborate, let’s pop it!

LET’S SHIFT GEARS

What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

Honey, I can cook my tail off you hear me!! (laughs)

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

Running my food truck. I have a mean Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake that I’m known for around my city. I also make Birria tacos and driving a school bus.

Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

I absolutely love and admire my mama I mean she’s the definition of loyal and gone hold you down, period! I get my loyalty from her. If I mess with you, I mess with you the long way for real! My mom has been by my side through it all! She’s my best friend!!

WRAPPING IT UP

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Take everything as business never get your feelings involved when it comes to handling business. Be prompt and finish what you started.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Chileee as long as my paper flowing in, I ain’t worried about no body else’s and what they got poppin’ off. You feel me!

What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

Ima keep on grinding with this music and in the next year I see myself at the Grammys I gotta get to them Grammys man!

How can we stay tapped in? Let us know where we can follow you on social media?
