BURNT SHIPS- Don’t Go Away

BURNT SHIPS recently released a new single titled “Don’t Go Away. It is a catchy Pop/Hip-Hop song. The song talks about the highs and lows of traveling the world and the romantic flings that come with it. With a sweet, wistful vocal on the hook and visual storytelling throughout it’s set to be a fan favorite!

Rapper Deltron Blac is a multi-genre industry veteran based in LA. While writing for major artists like Dr. Dre as well as Pop and Latin acts, he also appeared alongside The Game and Layzie Bone on the viral song “West Coast Melody”.

NEW MUSIC ALERT: SWIZZ BEATZ

SWIZZ BEATZ is the next man up for the culture. The legendary producer released ‘Hip-Hop 50: Vol 2’ a few days ago to rave reviews. With Hip-Hop turning 50 this year, Mass Appeal(Nas’ label) has been doing it’s part to facilitate the celebration of the movement.

Swizz is taking the helm similar to how DJ Premier did in June of last year. Vol.1 was dope and had great features from Nas, Lil Wayne and Rapsody. The new installment has 6 all new songs. Swizz aligned the project to feature some of the nicest collabs in the game.

Swizz Beatz Hip-Hop 50: Vol 2

WHAT TO EXPECT

The second track from the EP “This Sh*t Right Here” gives us a monster of a collaboration. Featuring Lil Wayne & Jay-Z, Swizz drops a massive brass production track. While Jay is quick in his chorus “this sh*t right here”, Wayne rips fire with bars that had both references to Drake and Mike Tyson. Check it out down below.

The project also features Jadakiss, Benny the Butcher, Nas and Lil Durk. Swizz is a renowned voice in Hip-Hop and it’s amazing to see his impact during the course of that impactful time. One of my favorite tracks is “Take ‘Em Out” which you can also check out down below.

Grandaddy Souf

GOT DAT GAS

Produced by Dielog, the track is raw as Grandaddy rides the track effortlessly. I was in the studio while the track was in the rough draft stages. We were in Texas for the annual Texas Fleet Week conference and at one of the locations scheduled for an artist soundstage, there was a studio in a backroom.

I was able to witness his creative process in real time. He fed off the energy in the room and was able to produce a quality track that’s both a banger and relatable.

Check out the official music video for “Got Dat Gas” down below. The visual, produced by Death Panther Media, features cameos from Fleet DJs’ own DJ Souljalife. The video was captured at Eva’s 1925 located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Straight Official Sit Downs: Willy Beegle aka The Poet Emcee

Willy Beegle

WILLY BEEGLE (aka The Poet Emcee) stopped by our headquarters this week for the latest edition of Straight Official Sit Downs. @klassikceo served up the questions for the aspiring artist. Check out their one-on-one below and click here for more editions of emerging artists on Straight Official Sit Downs!

Q&A WITH THE POET EMCEE

Introduce yourself. Tell us who you are and where you are from?

My name is Willy Beegle aka The Poet Emcee and I am from New Haven, Connecticut.

Was there any artist that interested you in joining the entertainment industry?

Not really. I’ve been acting, a musician, intellectual and scholar since elementary school for the pure love of Hip-Hop and Art in general. I can say I’ve inspired other people to get into the industry.

Who and/or what inspires you to create?

My inner G (energy) sees the world around me in a different way. Allah inspires a picture to my minds eye and i bring them to life.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How would you describe your sound?

In its origin, my poetic and lyrical style is called “Boom Wry-tin”. After being mentored by Universal “uvee” Beegle it has evolved to what is now, “E.S.C.O Cold Flow” (Enlightened, Sophisticated & Creative).

What is your creative process like?

Jay-Z said it best and in the shortest words. “Put on the right beat, leave the door cracked and let God in.”  The story to my song, 10 Crackz is my favorite to tell.

What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

I have no picks to who I’d like to collaborate with. Anybody would be a blessing to work with.

SHIFTING GEARS

Willy Beegle

Never let the naysayers convince you different on what God-given gifts you have. If you hear the drums, follow the beat.

Willy Beegle

What is the most talent/skill you have that most people don’t know about?

Most people think I’m mixed. They’re surprised that I’m 100% Puerto Rican. I know multiple languages and hold all elements of Hip-Hop to the core. I have an ear for music that can hear through the universe and eyes that can see past the tangible.

What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

I wouldn’t be alive. The choice was a stick. A pencil or a gun, which is called a Stick. Music is immersed into my DNA. I couldn’t imagine what type of person I’d be if my parents weren’t who they were.

Who are some artists/people you admire and why?

I admire myself for never giving up and taking a chance to see what I am made of. Both lyrically and spiritually. This journey has been the worst and the greatest. My yin and yang to my purpose for life.

IN CLOSING

What is the best advice you’ve received?

All money ain’t good money.- Ron Murrdah

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The artist would own their masters and have more control over their image.

What’s next for you? Where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

Still performing and hitting new markets where no one knows who I am.

Drake Denounces AI-Generated Version of Himself

Drake Denounces AI-Generated Version of Himself

Artificial intelligence technology has made headlines once again. This time for creating a digital clone of Drake’s voice to cover Ice Spice’s hit song, “Munch (Feelin’ U)”. Although the AI-generated version of Drake rapping saucy and confident lyrics like “N-gga a eater, he ate it for lunch/Bitch, I’m a baddie, I get what I want” was entertaining for fans, it wasn’t received well by the OVO Sound boss himself.

YOUTUBE/ICE SPICE | ROBERT KAMAU/GC IMAGES

After seeing the viral clip on The Shade Room’s Instagram page. Drake shared his disappointment on his Instagram Stories, writing, “This the final straw AI.” This latest incident raises concerns about AI in the music industry, prompting Universal Music Group to request that major streaming services, such as Spotify and Apple Music, block AI platforms from using their music to “train” their technology.

AI DOESN’T PROTECT THE ARTIST

Young Guru, JAY-Z’s longtime engineer, also expressed concern earlier this year, warning about the potential legal and ethical implications of people having their voices cloned by artificial intelligence. He called for changes in the law to protect everyone, not just public figures.

While Drake may not appreciate hearing an AI version of himself perform “Munch (Feelin’ U)”. Drake has been supportive of Ice Spice’s rise to fame. Sending her a DM praising her talents and inviting her to his October’s Very Own Festival. Although their relationship hit a rough patch. Drake allegedly unfollowed Ice Spice on Instagram and subliminally dissed her in a song. Since then they patched things up.

While AI-generated music can be entertaining. It raises serious ethical and legal questions that the industry must address. As for Drake, he remains one of the biggest names in music, but he draws the line at AI-generated versions of his voice.

Herbo Negotiates a Deal in Fraud Case

Chicago-born rapper G Herbo, born Herbert Wright III, is facing charges related to a $1.5 million fraud scheme. Including wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Herbo and five other men were arrested in December 2020. Accused of using stolen IDs to purchase designer dogs, private jet flights, limousine rides, and vacations.

Since then, Herbo has been out on bond, and he pleaded not guilty in court. However, court documents filed on April 11, 2023, reveal that Herbo and his co-defendants are currently negotiating plea deals with the government. The prosecution has requested a Rule 11 hearing, where Herbo would be expected to plead guilty.

The proposed plea deal, charges like aggravated identity theft. Its is a mandatory minimum sentence of two years, which could be dismissed. Herbo’s legal team and the government have been negotiating since May 2021.

If Herbo agrees to a plea deal, he could potentially avoid jail time, hoping to dodge a lengthy prison sentence. The negotiation period has been extended until June 1, as both sides are asking for more time to finalize the plea deals.

Herbo has been charged with lying to federal agents in connection to the case, and he pleaded not guilty to the additional charge. However, he could be facing a plea deal that would require him to plead guilty to criminal charges.

Herbo has been releasing music since 2012 and has been a prominent figure in the Chicago rap scene. However, his legal troubles could impact his music career and potentially land him in jail.

If Herbo agrees to a plea deal, he could potentially avoid jail time, hoping to dodge a lengthy prison sentence.

Megan Thee Worries About Label’s Financial State

Megan Thee Stallion has voiced her concerns about the ability of the record label to compensate her if she wins her lawsuit. The rapper has accused the label of running low on funds, despite millions of dollars in deposits. Thee Stallion worries About Label’s Financial State Amidst Ongoing Lawsuit

According to TMZ, Megan believes that 1501 Certified Entertainment’s primary bank account has less than $10,000. Because of this it raises fears that the label’s owner, Carl Crawford, along with J. Prince and Gee Roberson, have been profiting from her music without proper compensation.

Royalties sought after In Motion Filed

Megan Worries Financial State (Megan Thee Stallion Album Cover for Good News )

As a result Thee Stallion filed a lawsuit against 1501 and its CEO, Carl Crawford, in 2020. Seeking royalties and her release from her contract in her latest motion. The rapper expresses concerns that she may not receive the compensation owed if she wins her legal battle against the label.

Megan request to appoint a third party to manage 1501’s finances is an indication of the severity of the situation. Megan is not only seeking compensation but also wants to ensure that she receives the payment she is owed, regardless of the label’s financial state.

Because this ongoing legal battle between Megan and 1501 highlights the importance of artists having proper legal representation and being vigilant about their finances. The rapper’s worries about her label’s ability to compensate her should serve as a cautionary tale for other artists.

A third party to manage 1501’s finances could also be beneficial for other artists on the label. Ensuring that they receive their rightful payments. It remains to be seen how the legal battle between both parties will play out. The rapper’s latest motion highlights the need for transparency and fair compensation in the music industry.

RNF BIGZ

How did you get started in music? What was it about music that caught your attention?

I got started watching battle raps I liked the wordplay of artists like Cassidy and Meek Mills the metaphors really caught my attention as well as the approach most battle rappers had like they wanted to destroy you every time with bars and wittiness.

RNF Bigz came from Richnfamous Bigz which came from my childhood group Richnfamous

RNF BIGZ

LET’S TALK MUSIC

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?

I do Feel good music that make you want to party, get money, and catch a vibe

What’s your process for writing a song?

I let the beat guide me to make the song, so if the lyrics match that specific beat I go with it or I find a beat that fits the vibe I am in at the moment

Have you had any live shows and if so tell me about your favorite performance?

I don’t really have a favorite performance, every time I perform it’s a wonderful experience seeing the reactions when people hear my music and see the energy I bring on stage

What single are you pushing and how did it come about? How long did it take to write it? Who is the producer? Is there a visual for the song?

Gelato is the single, I got the beat from an Atlanta producer Qthaproducer and he found me on instagram after I got a buzz from going to California and working with DJFlippp. I actually came up with the hook when I heard the beat so it didn’t take me that long to finish the song and a video will be dropping in the near future
