Dead Silence
Dead Silence

DEAD SILENCE released his new single “Need To Go” last week to rave reviews and replays. The Indianapolis artist and songwriter has been on his grind and the payoff has been spectacular to say the least! With his music being heard on popular TV shows such as Growing Up Hip-Hop on We TV as well as on ABC News and HBO, he is showing and proving that being an independent artist does have its rewards.

Dead Silence- Need To Go Artwork

An entire vibe in itself, “Need To Go” is a track that reflects his thoughts on the fake love and attention that runs rampant nowadays. Along with releasing a clean and explicit version of the single, he released the official music video on Friday and from the looks of the visual, you can tell this was a fun shoot! But don’t take my word for it, you can see the excitement on the faces of everyone in attendance!

Meet the Artist: Zell’s World

Zell's World

Marzell Martinear, an artist known as Zell’s World, has been passionate about music since he was a teenager. In the past few years, Zell has taken this passion and created a style of music that he loves today. He credits his years of experience to the growth he has made in the music industry. He’s been able to study changes in music and use this knowledge to release songs that cater to everyone.

Zell’s World is an independent artist and has described his life as “born in Chicago, raised in Cincinnati, by way of Atlanta.” He developed a strong foundation in Cincinnati, studied the business of music in Atlanta, and has since been traveling between states to broaden his audience even further. His goal is to reach an international level and release music on every platform.

The key to Zell’s success? Staying humble and continuing to perfect his skill. When complimenting his progress, Zell tends to think, “I don’t think I’ve done enough,” which he believes motivates him to keep going until he is exactly where he wants to be, at his standards. When asked what advice he’d give to new artists, he gave a valuable message:

“Don’t give up, always be consistent, quality over quantity, and never wait for anybody.”

I would ask people to listen, share, like, etc… anything to support and some just wouldn’t. Some of my closest relationships have changed yet, people I’ve never met bought and shared my music as soon as its released.

Zell’s World’s view on challenges in the music industry

Being in the music industry does have its challenges. Zell’s view on relationships has changed since he began his career. Zell gave a personal shout-out to his brother, Keith Marshall a.k.a. Keef N Nem, and his producer Evan, known as MamaNamedMeEvan. Keith is Zell’s closest friend and has been there to motivate and push him to be his best. When it comes to who he’ll be sharing his success with, Keith is at the top of the list. Evan produces a majority of Zell’s music including “All Hustle No Luck” by Easy Lantana, Pusha T, Bun B, Yo Gotti, & “Blessing” by K Camp, and “Get Right” by Sammie.

Even through Covid, Zell has successfully released his album, Zell’s World the Album, and his single, “Put it 2getha” with YDN. “Put it 2getha” is a trendy sound for hip hop. The style, the swag, the overall message is unique,” Zell explains. It was originally a YouTube beat that Zell wrote lyrics to, connected and mixed with YDN in Atlanta, and then his brother, Keef N Nem, recreated the whole beat, and essentially “put it together.” Zell’s next steps are to get “Put it 2getha” on an international platform.

Check out this banger and all of Zell’s World music on Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok at @itszellsworld!

Straight Official Magazine Sit Down: Lil Bae | @lilbae33

#GetSOM via @djspins

Lil Bae (Photo Cred: Lil Bae IG page)

Recently we got the chance to catch up with North Carolina recording artist Lil Bae who is heating & shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

DJ -What is your Stage Name? Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?

LB – Lil Bae, from Fort Mill, SC. The entertainment industry interested me when I saw the different people you get to connect with. From producers, dancers, videographers, DJ’s, entrepreneurs and most importantly fans. Music is my passion, my life, but to meet people who can relate and love it is amazing to me.

DJ- Who and/or what inspires you to create?

LB- My inspiration is my life and experiences. I want my music to be a reflection of myself so my fans can actually relate. I make music with substance behind it. I just keep up with what is trending.

DJ- How would you describe your sound?

LB- My sound is simply authentic. Old school rap with a new Flava. My sound is who I am. My cadence separates me from most female artists out there. My sound resonates with the soul. It is refreshing.

DJ- What is your creative process like?

LB- My creative process is as follows every time; I start off working out early in the day to clear my head. I listen to different types of beats until one really grabs my attention. I write the hook and build from there. Once I’ve gotten the first verse and the hook down pack delivery-wise, I record a demo. Depending on the mood and the way “Life” goes I will finish it that day or come back to it in a week. Then it’s studio time.

DJ- What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?

LB- I would love to collaborate with Missy Elliott and Soulja Boy. I would be able to attack both generations at one time and the synergy would be amazing.

DJ- If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

LB- If I could open up for any artist it would be Missy Elliot, of course. Also, I would say Lil Baby. The messages behind his music are deeper than most rappers and I respect that.

DJ- What is one message you would give to your supporters?

LB- “Find yourself and stay true to you. Every day is a test. Focus on passing that and just go with the flow of life. Remember, always smile.”

DJ- What is the most useless talent you have?

LB- My most useless talent would be playing the recorder. I learned how in elementary school and can really play but never do.

DJ- What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?

LB- If I was not doing music, I would be creating a skincare line for sensitive skin baddies like myself. Being the best esthetician and a BOMB MOM! Eventually, I would find the music.

DJ-Who are some artists you admire and why?

LB- Missy Elliott. She remained authentic. She was different coming out at that time and she accepted that. Her sound, style, creativity and poise. Ciara. She is a killer dancer. The way she markets her music by incorporating a dance with it has made her level up.

DJ- What is the best advice you’ve been given?

LB- “The only thing that matters is now. You cannot change your past, you are not in your future, but in this moment you have the ability to create everything you want. So focus.” I have been following this advice since the beginning of the year and I can say this last quarter has been great to me.

(Photo Cred: Lil Bae IG page)

Find yourself and stay true to you. Everyday is a test. Focus on passing that and just go with the flow of life. Remember, always smile.

Lil Bae

DJ- If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

LB- I would change everything about the industry. Artist development mainly. That would clear up the roster for ready independents.

DJ- What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?

LB- I will continue to make relatable, longevity music. Connecting with my fans and building myself as an artist. In the next year, I will be the artist everyone wants to meet. I will not only be busy and booked with shows and interviews, but I will also be speaking to the masses about mental health. Being the voice of the people in the music industry.

DJ- What is your social media? How can people get in contact with you?

LB- @lil.ba33 on all platforms. Also linktr.ee/Lil.Bae will take you to any Social Media Link you need.

Let’s Talk King of Kentucky | @est.gee

If I ain’t a young shiner then what do you call that?”

@est.gee

#GetSOM via @mochathemack

Earlier this year the “Bigger Than Life or Death” rapper was cited countless times as one of 2021’s breakout rap stars, and rightfully so. Signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG, EST Gee is credited doing features with the best of them – Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, Future, Lil Durk, and 42 Dugg just to name a few. People love EST Gee because he raps about some pretty dark topics, but in a way that truly embodies modern musicality.

We ain’t got no pro team in Louisville, this a brick town”

EST Gee

Now, most people who think of Louisville, Kentucky think of bourbon, racehorses, and Muhammad Ali. Lately in the 20’s, Jack Harlow and now EST Gee, have been running the Bluegrass State. Admittedly, I was not a fan at first, but I rooted for him anyway because we’re originally from the same city. It caught my attention listening to his collab with Moneybagg, which is one of my favorites in the game right now, but still I wasn’t convinced he was the star that Yo Gotti was making him out to be. I recently got a chance to really review the album and honestly, I was upset with myself for sleeping on him for so long. I did some further research and had a fan girl moment when I found out that his birthday is the day before mine – he’s automatically my favorite.

On a more serious note, the “young shiner” was described as being “apathetic” towards his fast rising career. I won’t quote it as a zodiac attribute, because like he said in a Pitchfork interview, “He’s seen it all and thought of it all.” When you get the chance to travel as much as he has, you realize that everywhere is really the same – some places are just flashier or more hood or country than the next. EST Gee has the potential to make it all the way. He used to play football before his rap career took off and let’s just say “he’s good at everything he does.”

Get Familiar With Tiffany Jaye | @tjayetaylor

#GetSOM via @djspins

Recently we got the chance to catch up with North Carolina recording artist Tiffany Jaye who is on the grind and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Tiffany Jaye

The music, notes, words, pictures…everything that music and art is about is the mere essence of what I love to do and who I am.

Tiffany Jaye

DJ Spins: What is your Stage Name? Please tell us where you’re from and what first got you interested in the entertainment industry?
Tiffany Jaye: My name is Tiffany Jaye born in Brooklyn, NY raised in Charlotte, NC. The idea that one could possibly make a living off their passion was what sparked my interest. Crossing paths with O.G. Neil, at 16, was an open door that made that possible and we’ve been rocking together ever since. I had the voice that could move mountains while he taught me the fundamentals of the business.

DJ: Who and/or what inspires you to create?
TJ: Inspiration comes from the overwhelming sensation to channel my emotions and have somewhere to put them. The soundboard is like a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

DJ: How would you describe your sound?
TJ: My sound is Mariah Carey for her range. Ne-Yo for his writing. Kehlani, Yebba and Victoria Monét for the feel that they bring to the track. They have amazing flavor and what I’m feeling right now in my spirit.

DJ: What is your creative process like?
TJ: My ideal creative process is sitting with a musician and if I have something in mind, like a melody I hum it and we start from there. Or I see where their head is at and we just create. Create from different ideas/inspirations that we’re thinking of at the time. Usually, when the process is like that I find those projects to be the most successful and smooth. There’s more of an organic flow that you get when you create from scratch together with someone else versus receiving a bunch of tracks to choose from and piece the song together.

DJ: What artist(s) would you like to collaborate with?
TJ: BabyFace for his tenure with songwriting and arranging. Ryan Leslie because he’s like a modern-day Stevie Wonder with his ability to play many instruments. He dubbed himself the Black Mozart, bold and fitting. Lady Gaga for the caricatures she’s displayed to the public throughout the years. I want to learn how she channels and makes them believable on screen. Lucky Daye because since his first album “Painted” I’m loving everything he’s doing in its entirety. His choice of features, his subject matter, his vocals, the production, everything.

DJ: If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?
TJ: Lucky Daye – I believe he’s well on his way and it would be a good mix of a show with me opening for him.

DJ: What is one message you would give to your supporters?
TJ: The music, the notes, the words, the pictures, everything that music and art is about is the mere essence of what I love to do and who I am. I hope that you not only listen for entertainment but also gain some personal growth. Preserve and continue to build your confidence by being inspired so that you can be an inspiration to someone else. We all have gifts and talents so find what works for you and use that to help serve others in whatever way you see fit. Whether it’s through singing a song, saying hey, or just giving a hug or a smile. I want you to enjoy, live life, and be free. God bless you, Love Tiffany Jaye.

DJ: What is the most useless talent you have?
TJ: I know that whatever I put my mind to I can accomplish it. With enough focus and discipline one year I learned how to crochet. I started a blanket to find a new hobby to quench my loneliness. While this was successful for the time being in the since of the question I would only call it useless because I don’t have the passion to take it further as I have with my music. It was a one-time thing and it accomplished the fix I needed at that point in my life. Music is something that will never go away. It’s my drug of choice. My vice when I want to escape. Being a part of the creative process is my reason to live.

DJ: What would you be doing right now, if you weren’t doing music?
TJ: If I wasn’t doing music I would probably be more invested in my job and would’ve taken opportunities to move up in that field sooner. Use that as a stepping stone for cash flow to work on my visual art, applying and entering into contests and gallery shows to eventually make a living off of that.

DJ: Who are some artists you admire and why?
TJ: Dorothy Dandridge, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Ne-Yo, Janet & Michael Jackson. I’m going to take time to expand upon one person here. Tina Turner. She’s like lightning in a bottle that couldn’t even contain her. She showed up and was fully present defying all odds and can now bow out gracefully with her mind, health, and a new vision of life going forward.

DJ: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
TJ: I’ve recently been listening to Brenden Burchard’s podcast called “The Brenden Show” and one of the things he suggested was to have a delayed emotional response when communicating. I’m working through being highly reactive so taking time, just a second to breathe in and out before I give someone a response has helped me provide a better, more well thought out answer. It doesn’t come off defensive or irrational which is what I want to perfect. Being proactive in my thinking is a skill I want to master.

DJ: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
TJ: The pay-to-play culture. I wish there was another way to weed out the riffraff to determine who’s really serious versus who’s not.

DJ: What’s next for you, where would you like to see yourself in the next year?
TJ: I would like to continue creating a few singles, not an album yet, and solidify my audience. Refining my social media and what fans tune into when they come to any of my platforms.
