Verse of the Month | Kendrick Lamar- Squabble Up

Kendrick Lamar

KENDRICK LAMAR knows how to close out a year in music. The Compton MC currently has a strangle hold on music charts as his “GNX” album continues to take all spots on all streaming platforms. The 12 track masterclass soundly addressed any and all instances surrounding him. Lamar is also rumored to have even more music on the way!

This month’s Straight Official Verse of the Month comes from the track that almost sounded illegal to hear finally! Kendrick’s track “Squabble Up” was teased by a snippet heard in the intro of “Not Like Us” released this summer. Once I finally heard the track in full it was well worth the wait!

Kendrick Lamar

KENDRICK LAMAR – SQUABBLE UP

God knows
I am
Reincarnated, I was stargazin’
Life goes on, I need all my babies (gyah, gyah)

Woke up lookin’ for the broccoli
High-key, keep a horn on me, that Kamasi
IP, ownership, the blueprint is by me
Mr. Get Off, I get off at my feet
(When I hear music, it makes me dance)
(You got the music, now is your chance)
A yee nigga couldn’t try me in the tri-state
Buddy pass, bet I get him splashed ’til he hydrated
Bounce out, know he spook town, eyes dilated
I got the money and the power both gyratin’

Kendrick Lamar

I feel good, get the fuck out my face
Look good, but she don’t got no taste
I walk in, walked out with the safe
Mando, let me know what the play

What the fuck? I got hits, I got bucks, I got new paper cuts
I got friends, I got foes, but they all sitting ducks
Hit his turf and get crackin’, double back like a deluxe
Fifty deep, but it ain’t deep enough
Fuck a plea, there he go, beat him up
Fallin’ from my money tree and it grow throughout the months
Spit a loogie at the camera, speed off, yeah, it’s us

SQUABBLE UP cont.

I feel good, get the fuck out my face
Look good, but she don’t got no taste
I walk in, walked out with the safe
Mando, let me know what the play

Hol’ up (hol’ up), where you from? (Where you from?)
Bye, bitch (bye, bitch), I’m finna go dumb (finna go dumb)
Sideways (sideways), bunk skunk (bunk skunk)
Fever (fever), I’m on one (I’m on one)

Kendrick Lamar

Thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk, baby rockin’ it
Quid pro quo, what you want? ‘Cause I’m watchin’ it
Work on the floor, let me know if you clockin’ it
Brodie won’t go, but I know that he poppin’ it
It was woof tickets on sale ’til I silenced it

Pipe down, young, these some whole other politics
Bitch with him and some bitch in him, that’s a lot of bitch
Don’t hit him, he got kids with him, my apologies
Ghetto child, it was Black & Milds with the Smirnoff
Yeehaw, we outside, whoadie ’bout to kill him off
Blaps on blaps, it’s a fact, this a brick of raw
Tell me why the fuck you niggas rap if it’s fictional?
Tell me why the fuck you niggas fed if you criminal?
“Ayy, Dot, can I get a drop?” I’m like, “Nigga, nah”
Ace boon coon from the Westside to Senegal
It’s a full moon, let the (ah) wolves out, I been a dog

Kendrick Lamar Releases “GNX” Album

Kendrick Lamar GNX

KENDRICK LAMAR DROPS “GNX”

On Friday afternoon KENDRICK LAMAR decided to pop out and release “GNX” to the masses. His sixth studio album to date already is setting records and addressing everything that encompasses the Compton MC. It’s the unexpectant manner of this release that makes Lamar a master of the anti-rollout. Pitchfork Magazine reports that since the start of the year, he’s turned 12 words’ worth of X posts and a couple of tracks accompanied by still images to Instagram into an era-defining rap beefa number-one single, and a booking to perform at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, in New Orleans.

The 12 track EP has turned the genre on it’s collective ear. Kendrick wasted little time nor bars speaking on everyone including Drake, Snoop Dogg and Lil’ Wayne. Lamar was given the nod to perform at this year’s Super Bowl over Wayne who is from New Orleans. Let’s tap in to this remarkable album!

Kendrick Lamar GNX

WHAT TO EXPECT

Kendrick Lamar, known for his lyrical prowess has never been one to not speak his mind. This is evident on the track “Wacced Out Murals.” One example was when he spoke on West Coast veteran Snoop Dogg. K-Dot spits “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles/I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go/Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me.” Check out “Wacced Out Murals” down below:

“GNX” contains tracks with some of the dopest samples heard in a long time. For example, the track “Luther” is one of the smoothest grooves on the album. Kendrick pairs up with SZA once again to create sonic bliss. Check it out down below!

EDITOR’S TAKE

Kendrick Lamar continues to usher in the notion of good music that’s been evident all year. In 44 minutes, K-Dot flexed on the industry with an album that solidifies his status in the game. This is a great way for Lamar to close out the year in front of his upcoming Super Bowl performance.

After giving the album a full listen, my pick from “GNX” is “The Heart Pt. 6.” I was anticipating this track ever since Drake decided to add his version of it to the rap beef saga. The SWV sample is top tier and one of the dopest tracks on the EP. Check it out down below!

What do you think of Kendrick Lamar’s new album? Is it one of the best releases of the year? Let us know down in the comments what you think!

In his first project since 2019, the project boasts several features that include Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Nas and several others.

Backed by the sounds of The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Warning” Meth and Ghost would swing lyrical hammers. Known for his witty punchlines and metaphors, Method Man simply bodied the track like he always does.

Method Man

GHOSTFACE KILLAH FT. METHOD MAN- PAIR OF HAMMERS

[Verse 2:]
Wu-Tang is for the children, Thanksgiving is for the pilgrims (Uh)
My thumb’s for countin’ ones, but this middle is for your feelings
What the Blood Clot? I’m illin’, pop stars not civilians
Sick of y’all, not to mention it’s shots, amoxicillin

Me and Ghostface Killah, Mol-ova face, it’s written
Tell a bo-faced liar about face, and drill ’em, like
They Dean Cane, get ’em, I hit ’em with gutter flows
Then keep ’em on they toes just for kicks, like “what are those?”

Method Man

[Verse 4:]
I tell her “La-Di-Da-Di” like I’m Rick
We jammin’ in the party, Bob Marley with the spliff
Black Bugatti with the shift
Look at Johnny (Aah), I’m blazin’, got an army, not a clique
Wu-Wear laundry, sometime it say Armani ’cause I’m rich (Rich)

Flow tsunami, I’m schemin’ like a Saudi with a brick
Rappers envy, but claim it was a Ponzi when they slip
I get the thumbs up like Fonzy ’cause I’m lit (‘Cause I’m lit)
New York Islanders, we finna hit somebody with the stick

PAIR OF HAMMERS cont.

[Verse 6:]
My mouth talk dirty with grammar, my tongue filthy
My arms come with armor, by baby momma’s a milfy
And drama is the karma I get for somethin’ that killed me (Yeah)
And still might, steal on a rapper because I’m still me

THE FUNK DOC IS BACK

REDMAN, the iconic New Jersey rapper, is finally gearing up to release Muddy Waters 2, the long-awaited sequel to his classic 1996 album Muddy Waters.

This upcoming album has been in development for several years. Red has been hinting at its progress as early as 2011. Fans have eagerly awaited new music since his last project (3 Joints) in 2020. Now, after years of anticipation and teasers, Muddy Waters 2 is on the horizon.

Redman kept the excitement alive by dropping singles and music videos that give a taste of what to expect from the new album.

For instance, the track “So Cool,” which features his signature humor and raw lyricism, was released alongside a visual that showcases scenes from Atlantic City, paying homage to the gritty and nostalgic feel of Muddy Waters. His recent single “80 Barz” also delivered a freestyle filled with witty bars, further building hype for the sequel.

Redman

REDMAN- MUDDY WATERS TOO

The album is expected to balance Redman’s signature playful style and raw energy with more modern production. Longtime collaborator Eric Sermon (Def Squad) is involved in the production, ensuring that the project retains the classic vibe while bringing something fresh for all fans.

The collaboration with RIV Music, which has worked with big names like Chris Brown and DJ Khaled, marks a significant step in Redman’s career. The endgame being to deliver a high-quality project that meets the expectations set by its predecessor.

Redman’s announcement came just before his highly publicized Verzuz battle with Method Man in April 2021. This would reignite his interest in his music. As Hip-Hop continues to evolve, Muddy Waters 2 aims to bridge the gap between the ’90s and today’s scene, reminding listeners why Redman remains a respected figure in the game. The album promises to cater to those nostalgic for the golden era while reaching out to a new generation of Hip-Hop enthusiasts.

EDITOR’S TAKE

Redman finally releasing a sequel to Muddy Waters is what Hip-Hop needs. While I’m not particularly a fan of sequels in some cases, this is the exception. I was introduced to him in high school and was blown away back then as a fan. His catalog is full of gritty, raw punchlines and bars that were perfectly captured on that first project.

They’ll be no sophomore jinx around Muddy Waters Too to worry about. Redman is an established veteran in Hip-Hop that never fails to wreck shop. Even though there’s no official release date, I can wait a little bit longer for this follow up.

Demons in Music: A Deep Dive into the Dark Side

Music has always been a powerful medium for expressing the full spectrum of human emotions. From joy and love to sorrow and despair. Among these emotions, the concept of “demons” often emerges. Which symbolizes inner struggles, personal battles, and the darker aspects of the human psyche. Let’s explore how different artists have tackled the theme of demons in their music, creating powerful and relatable pieces that resonate with listeners worldwide.

The Symbolism of Demons

In music, demons often symbolize internal conflicts, mental health struggles, and personal challenges. They represent the parts of ourselves that we battle against, whether it’s depression, anxiety, addiction, or past traumas. By personifying struggles as demons, artists create a vivid narrative that listeners can connect with on a deep emotional level.

Iconic Songs About Demons

“Demons” by Imagine Dragons: This song is perhaps one of the most well-known tracks dealing with the theme of inner demons. Lead singer Dan Reynolds has openly discussed his struggles with depression and anxiety. “Demons” serves as a raw and honest portrayal of these battles. The lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and the desire to protect loved ones from one’s darker side.

“The Monster” by Eminem ft. Rihanna: The duo explores the concept of battling inner demons and the impact of fame on mental health. The song delves into the haunting of one’s past. Along with the constant struggle to maintain sanity in the face of overwhelming pressure.

“Demons” by Alec Benjamin: Alec Benjamin’s “Demons” is a poignant reflection on personal struggles and the feeling of being trapped by one’s own mind. The song’s introspective lyrics and haunting melody create a powerful depiction of the artist’s internal battles.

“Ghosts” by Michael Jackson: Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, also explored the theme of demons in his music. His song “Ghosts” from the 1997 album Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix delves into the idea of being haunted by one’s past and the societal pressures that can feel like personal demons. Jackson’s ability to blend powerful lyrics with captivating visuals in his music videos added an extra layer of depth to his exploration of these themes.

The Therapeutic Power of Music

For many artists, writing and performing songs about their demons is a form of therapy. It allows them to confront their issues head-on and share their experiences with others. This cathartic process not only helps the artists but also provides solace and understanding to their listeners.

The Broader Impact

Songs about demons resonate with a wide audience because they touch on universal themes of struggle and resilience. They remind us that we are not alone in our battles and that it’s okay to confront our inner demons. By sharing their stories, artists create a sense of community and support, encouraging listeners to seek help and find strength in their own journeys.

In Conclusion

The theme of demons in music is a powerful reminder of the human condition. It highlights our vulnerabilities, our struggles, and our capacity for resilience. Through their music, artists offer a glimpse into their own battles, creating a space for empathy, understanding, and healing. Whether it’s through the haunting melodies of Imagine Dragons, the raw honesty of Eminem, or the introspective lyrics of Alec Benjamin, songs about demons continue to inspire and connect us on a profound level.

I hope this captures the essence of how demons are portrayed in music and their impact on artists and listeners.
